-Day 1-
The screams and sirens could no longer be heard. I anxiously pulled the sleeves of my jacket over the palm of my hand, instead, I could hear groans and growls. I stood from my crouch, peering over the car that had been turned on its side. The city was covered in a blanket of fire, I was unprepared and I needed to change that. I snuck back to my apartment building, trying to stay under the radar. Stumbling on the uneven paths coated with rubble, I finally made it to the building. Without thinking I ran up the 4 flights of stairs and barrelled down the corridor finally getting to my apartment. It was in the exact condition I left it in, the office chair slightly pulled out from under the desk, the wardrobe closed, a pile of folded up clothes on the floor. Feeling relieved, I slowly got together necessary supplies knowing that I wouldn't be able to survive here any longer. Small lumps of fear clogged up my throat as I nervously looked around the corner, a creature leaped at me. It had hollow eyes and an aggressive scowl on its torn up face, the remains of its clothing were ripped up. I screamed in fear and shot off to the direction of the stairs. After causing lots of noise, I realized my mistake. More of the creatures lumbered towards me, then more almost slithered across the blood-stained carpeted floor. I opened my mouth to scream but instead I just turned tail and ran.
It had been a few days since my first encounter with the zombies - if that's what they were. I was still on the run, I figured that it wasn't safe in a highly populated city, I opened my backpack and took out a sandwich. I had raided one of the convenience stores successfully and had a fair amount of food, drink, and some medical supplies as well as the things from my apartment. Sadly, I had not obtained a weapon. The only thing I had was my fists, which wouldn't do much. I had to move fast. I wouldn't survive much longer in California, I'd have to go to another state. If I survive long enough to get there... Although I was currently in Los Angeles, maybe going up to the capital would be safer.
I reached a crossroads and turned, passing one of the many high schools. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and fumbled to unlock it, there was still a signal so I rushed to text one of my friends. She lived in Kansas so I couldn't meet up with her if she was still alive. My other friend is up in Washington, she replied to me straight away.
Omg, you're alright, I'm coming down to Cali. meet you wherever.
I nodded to myself and set off at a quick pace.
(A/N) This is as much as I've written so far! I would love some feedback to know whether I should continue this story or not!
