Pressing his palm against the door, Ronald mentally counts back from three before giving the door a push. The door swings open slowly, the un-oiled hinges moving with an ear-spitting creak. Wincing as he attempts to erase the sound from his mind, Ronald peers into the room. It is large with two beds on opposite sides. One side is obviously occupied; there are books and papers thrown everywhere. The only light source is a fire in the heath: there is a window but thick velvet curtains obscure all the natural light from sight, however, the fire is on the verge of fading away, the light being devoured by the darkness. The room is slightly ominous and extremely eerie. Ronald shivers as he gingerly steps into the room, watching as the light from the hallway spill past him, casting his shadow across the floor. The room appears empty but Ronald can feel wandering eyes seizing him up; a very strong feeling of discomfort.
"Are you going to stand there all day or do you plan on going in?" Warm breath hits Ronald's ear and the reaper whips his head to the side, his pulse jumping as he turns in the direction of the voice. There is a boy standing in the hallway: his hair is like flames and his face is dangerously pale with spidery green veins apparent just below the surface of his skin. His form is tall and gawky with thin arms and large knuckles-Ronald can't help but notice the bandage wrapped around the boy's hand and wrist. The boy frowns and Ronald's attention is brought to the boy's eyes; they are dead and black. "You're staring." The boy says matter-of-factly, crossing his arms over his chest, "And your eyes are glowing." Dammit. Curse these reaper eyes...
Ronald turns away from the boy and chuckles lightly, bringing a hand to his mouth.
"It's a family thing." He lies, fluently, "Legend has it that a witch gave my great great great grandfather the glowing eyes of a cat." The boy frowns,
"But your eyes don't look like a cat's ey-"
"I said it was a legend." Ronald walks over to the bed on the unoccupied side of the room. He studies it for a minute before plopping himself onto the mattress, the wooden frame creaking under his weight.
"Legends always hold truth." The boy sits on the bed opposite of Ronald, his figure practically being swallowed up by the plush blankets, "Things that were once believed to be legends are often true."
"Oh?" Ronald inquires, raising an eyebrow, "Like what?" The boy ponders on the question, his face knitted in concentration.
"Like demons." He says after a moment of silence, "And angels and grim reapers and contracts made by demons to bind them to their master until they can take their master's soul." Ronald freezes. This kid knows a lot...it's really strange.
"What's your name kid?" Ronald asks, leaning forward.
"Ryan. Ryan Phicer. And I'm not a kid; we're the same age." Ryan holds out a bony hand and Ronald takes it, feeling jolts of electricity explode in his hand when they shake. He yanks his hand away, grimacing in pain.
"Ronald Knox." He says through his teeth. Ryan grins and something glints in his dark eyes.
"It's nice to meet you Ronald."
"Hey there!" A peppy young girl races over to Amber, her tiny fingers wrapped around the stems of large pink roses. The thorns have dug through her skin but the girl doesn't notice the bloody cuts scoring her palms. Her long hair is a vibrant crimson and her wide eyes are the colour of ice. The girl stops a few feet away from Amber, a bright smile plastered on her face, "Are you Amber Dawson?"
"Yeah, why?" The girl beams, her perfect teeth flashing.
"My name is Madaline. Madaline Phicer. We're sharing rooms!" Madaline sqeals releasing the roses, the brightly coloured flowers falling onto the floor. She takes Amber's hand in hers, her blood staining Amber's palms, "Oh we'll be the best of friends!" The small girl drags Amber down a hallway, her heels clicking against the tiled floors. After what feels like an eternity, Madaline pulls Amber into a very cozy and bright room with pale purple walls and dark carpets. The first thing Amber notices in the room are the sketchy drawings littering one bed and the floor. Each picture is one of a boy with bright orange hair, black eyes, angular cheekbones and a sharp chin.
"Did you draw these?" Amber inquires, seizing up the images with her stormy grey eyes. Madaline nods her head, shoving a pile of drawings off a bed, falling back onto the mattress.
"That's my brother." Madaline says, her expression turning somber, "Everyone tells me that he's dead but I know he's not because he goes to this school." Amber pulls her lips into a thin line, furrowing her brows.
"What do you mean everyone says he's dea-"
"That's enough about me!" Madaline says, giving a disdainful wave of her hand, "How about that boy that was with you? The cute one?"
"You mean Ronald?" Amber asks, feeling a pang in her chest; Madaline thinks that Ronald is cute? Madaline giggles.
"Even his name is cute!" She says, kicking her feet into the air.
"Yeah, it is. He is..." Amber mumbles under her breath, her face flushing at the thought of the blonde.
"Inspector Abbrline!" The brunette inspector glances over his shoulder and a smile breaks out on his face as he sees the young Earl making his way toward him through the crowds, his mysterious butler a pace behind.
"Ciel!" Abberline grins down at the small boy, the smile fading once he sees the grave look on Ciel's face, "What's wrong Ciel?"
"I presume that you have heard of the murders Inspector?" Ciel asks and Abberline nods, his almond-shaped eyes drifting to the Earl's butler.
"Hello Sebastian." Abberline tips the rim of his hat and Sebastian gives a small and gracious bow, "And I have Ciel."
"I need you to tell me what you know." Ciel says, his tone demanding. Abberline fidgets nervously.
"I don't think I can-"
"I have orders from the Queen." Abberline's fidgeting ceases and he eyes the boy warily; it is amazing how the Queen trusts this child so much. He sighs, glancing at Sebastian. The butler's eyes gleam with unearthly light and Abberline bites back a shudder; that man is no normal butler.
"I don't have much information." Abberline says in a hushed voice, "Not even a suspect. But all evidence points to a single case a few years ago, the murder of Ryan Phicer."
