"come on, i wanna show you something" he said, pulling me from my thoughts. he held out his hands, i took them and he pulled me up. he tightened his grip on my hand leading me down the hill and back into the school building, we walked down the corridors stopping in front of the music room.
"the music room?" i asked. he let go of my hand and opened the door gesturing for me to follow him inside. he closed the door behind him and walked over to the piano, pulling the plastic cover off of it before sitting down on the stool in front of it.
i walked over to him with my eyes widened "wait you play?"
he laughed and gently grabbed my wrist, pulling me down next to him on the stool. i sat captivated as i watched his fingers effortlessly move from one chord to another. he was utterly breathtaking. he played with so much passion. so much emotion.
"what else don't i know about you" i laughed,
"sometimes things are better left unsaid" he told me while taking his hands away from the piano keys. what did he mean by that?
silence filled the room but it wasn't an awkward silence, it was nice. we were just enjoying each other's company.
"so that song you were playing.." i said breaking the silence, "does it mean something to you?"
by the way he was playing, it seemed important to him. he nodded his head slowly,
"my mum used to play it to me when i was younger, to help me fall asleep" he paused taking a deep breath before continuing,
"it's really the only memory i have of her"
i felt my heart sink as he said those words.
"oh, i'm sorry" i frowned. he shook his head,
"it's okay, it was years ago now" he replied.
i wiped the single tear from his cheek, he smiled weakly and grabbed my hand, intertwining our fingers.
"in some ways i know how you feel" i told him, "one day my dad left without saying goodbye, he didn't even leave a trace, he just.. disappeared. my mum well.. she's been depressed ever since, even got into the habit of drinking.. she's never been the same" i explained, sighing sadly.
"i'm so sorry.." he whispered calmly, "my dad didn't even acknowledge when my mum passed, it's like he blocked it all out. he didn't talk to me about it. he just became emotionless.. he definitely hasn't been the same either" he murmured.
"looks like we both have pretty messed up lives" i laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
he joined in laughing, "yeah looks like it"
i wanted to hold him forever, tell him it was okay. he doesn't deserve what he's been through, someone as kind hearted as him doesn't deserve to be in pain.
he took out his phone and jumped up from the stool in a hurry, "um i have to go" he said quickly before turning and running to the door.
"wait what? school isn't over yet" i told him, "do you really have to leave?" i asked, not wanting him to. he nodded,
"i'm sorry! i'll see you tomorrow" he said. he left and i was alone still sitting on the piano stool. i ran my fingers lightly over the keys smiling to myself as i pictured him playing. well moon boy, you really are something special aren't you.—
