Lyla released her seething dark mass in a tight ball hurting towards Perseus.
But it never made it that far.
An arrow of light pierced right through the center with the stunning accuracy of an Olympian. Midair the mass of black exploded, the shock wave forcing both Lyla and Percy to the ground.
The Sea Prince sighed in relief.
"Tch. Hamish!" The girl scowled. To Percy's surprise, another teenager dropped to the ground besides her. Percy believed it was safe to assume this was Hamish.
Hamish had been analysing the battle from above, keeping an eye on the battle yet not interfering until now. After all, he knew all too well what Lyla's self control was like.
"I apologise for my comrades behaviour. She will be punished upon returning." Hamish bowed respectfully in Percy's direction, who sat there momentarily stunned. "She was but curious of the Great Hero's strength. I hope you can find it within you to forgive her."
Percy blinked slowly, suddenly unsure if the situation. "Uh, yeah..." he trailed off awkwardly.
"Lyla, apologise." Hamish said. His voice did not rise. It didn't waver at all. But nonetheless the command held power.
The girl - Lyla, didn't look happy about it, but she rose to her feet and walked the length of the alleyway until she stood before Percy.
"Sorry." She huffed, offering her hand. Percy cautiously took it. The moment their hands touched, something sparked.
A memory swamped his vision, but as soon as she hauled him to his feet with surprising strength it was gone and Percy forgot all about the memory.
He stood, dazed as the duo leaped for the roof and disappeared over the rooftops.
What the-
Percy shook himself out of it. Was it really safe to go to his planned destination? That Hamish guy may have seemed sorry, but the Lyla girl had attacked him right off the bat. Could they be waiting for him to head home so they knew where he lived?
No.
His mother could protect herself pretty good without him. Besides, he would be there himself.
Before Percy had realised it, his feet had carried him all the way to the apartment he once lived him. After taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door.
It took a moment, but the door opened.
There was a wailing child somewhere in the background and the smell of something cooking wafting through the door.
But that wasn't what mattered.
The pair stood in silence for a moment, basking in one others presence. And then finally Percy broke the silence.
"Hi, Mum."
