I don't remember anything from my early childhood. Heck, I don't even remember my exact birthday. Who are my parents ? I have never met them. Why did they abandon me ? Will I ever know ? I guess not...
The things I know are the things people told me. I was found in the forest of Brocelind on November 21st 1999 by some Seelie warriors. They brought me back to the Seelie Queen who raised me like a warrior and taught me to fight with a sword as well as knives and to use a bow and arrows. I owe her my life. Without her, I wouldn't be alive.
I also have been taught about Shadowhunter History because, could you guess it, I am one. So, I began my training. At my 10th birthday, I was sent to the London Institute for my Rune Ceremony. I have been training there ever since. At first, the other kids had troubles to accept me as a Shadowhunter, you know, because I was raised by Seelies and everything. But the good thing about being raised by Seelies is that you can get your way all the time, which helped me to gain the trust of almost every Shadowhunter I knew.
Now I am 18 years old (or I seem to be) and the London Institute is my home. I live here, I work here, I go on missions from here. I like it here. But, sometimes things gotta change. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. And sometimes, if you're like me, you get the two.
My best friend Jane entered my room with a smile.
- Hey, the Head of the Institute wants to see you.
- Hum, sure...
I climb out of my bed where I was laying, thinking about my life and direct my way to the office. Why would the Head want to see me ? I try to recall my last missions. In the last month, I captured a dozen demons and Circle members. I don't like to brag, but it was quite a success, in my opinion. He is not the one who usually gives me my missions. Plus, there hasn't been an attack in, like 3 days and no one been on mission. All the demons and "mean guys" are in America, fighting with Valentine.
So why... ?
I enter the office. The Head is sitting on a couch, facing me.
- Good morning. I was waiting for you. Sit down.
I sit on a chair in the corner of the room.
- Okay, so I am going to go straight to the point. I would like you to go on a mission to the New York Institute.
- The New York Institute ?
- Yes. You will lead a mission to go to the New York Institute. I am sure that you heard about Valentine's escape. Well, he has now found a other plan to get rid of the Downworlders, which now scared of their fate are few to want to help find him. This is why I am sending some of my best Shadowhunters to go help the New York Shadowhunters. The Institute is notified of your arrival. You will leave first thing tomorrow.
I look at him, suprised. I have never lead a mission.
- I trust you to be a great leader. Now go. I have things to do.
He get up and walks to the door. He opens it. I get up too and walk past him with a great smile on my face.
- Thank you !
- Don't deceive me.
He shuts the door.
I come back to my room. Jane is sitting on my bed, reading a mundane book about vampire. When I enter the room, she closes the book and looks at me, waiting to know what the Head said. I sit down next to her and tell I have been chosen to lead a mission to the New York Institute. She hugs me. She is happy for me, because he knows I have been waiting for this for a long time. Due to my long stay with the Seelies, I wasn't trusted by everyone at first. It is true that I know how to manipulate the truth to avoid questions I don't want to answer, but this is unfair ! But anyway, this is all in the past.
