The demon was looking at me, ready to jump. He opened his mouth wide and scrieched loudly. I could sense that I was in danger. With my back against the wall, I couldn't go any further. I had used all of my arrows against the other demons and my sword was meters away from me, behind the monster who was threatening me. I was trapped ! In vain, I searched for a way to get out of here. Suddendly, I heard a loud growl coming from somewhere in the shadows. The demon turned around, but not fast enough because a big black mass had jumped on him. Within seconds, the demon dissapeared in the shadows.
The dark shadow that attacked the demon must've been a werewolf. I wondered if it was still there, lurking in the dark.
I remembered reading somewhere that when a werewolf turns, it does not control its actions and/or emotions. Therefore, it could attack innocent people. Like me. I grew anxious. It was so dark, I couldn't see one meter in front of me. How was I going to get out of here ? I had to find my sword, and fast.
I was thinking, trying to find a way out, when a sort of light apeared not far from me. No, it wasn't a light, it was two green eyes. Two green eyes in the shadows, two green eyes looking at me. And it wasn't your plain green eyes. No, it was a more mysterious green, the one that shines in the dark, one that catches your eye and makes you never want to look back. Yes it's that apple colored green. And these eyes were so green, so mysterious, and so surrounded by darkness that I didn't know if I had to feel reassured or scared.
The green eyes moved and slowly the werewolf apeared and walked towards me. It was growling, showing its teeth, ready to attack.
I didn't know if I prefered to be attacked by a demon or a werewolf. Probably neither, I thought. But which one was the most dangerous ? Well, what I did know was that I didn't care what would happen to the demon if I attacked him. A werewolf is a person underneath it all, so it's more complicated. It is also against the Accords and my morals. But here, I am defending myself, it is therefore not the same situation.
I looked into the werewolf's eyes. He looked into my eyes. We were staring at each other for what seemed like hours. And then he jumped. Claws out, mouth open. His paws were reaching for my head, so I ducked. He flew over me and fell to the ground with a thund. I turned around and he got up, still growling. I raised my fists, and he jumped on me, catching my right forearm with his claws. I thought the p in was coming straight from hell. I punched him once in the belly and once under his jaw. He fell backwards but not before having scratched me on my cheek. He hit the ground with a thump and layed there motionless.
My blood was running on my face and my arms and the big dark red drops were falling on the ground to form a pool of my own blood. I had to get out of here before passing out passing out due to blood loss.
I didn't even stop to wonder if the werewolf was dead or not.
When I came back to the Institute, I used my Healing rune to make the werewolf marks dissapear. The ones on my cheek did but not the three claw marks on my right forearm.
« Weird » I thought. « Oh, my gosh, I hope I am not going to turn into a werewolf »
I had to contact the leader of the NYC pack to report this attack. I seem to recall that their territory was near the docks at the « Jaden Wolf » restaurant. A chinese restaurant, I think. I had to go before anybody saw the claw marks on my arms.
This situation was not unusual to the shadowhunters, as some had already been attacked by werewolves and some turned into a werewolf themselves. But, as the werewolves are dangerous, they are not very trusted by shadowhunters, and attacked shadowhunters too.
Once there, I moved around very carefully. Werewolf are known to be very territorial. I pushed the door of the Jaden wolf and entered the restaurant. They were all sitting at tables and they all turned around when I closed the door, with a fierce look in their eyes. Maybe not so used to having clients... Or was it my runes ?
A tall, bald man with muscles got up from where he was sitting and frowned at me. « A shadowhunter... », he said suspiciously.
Totally my runes, I thought.
« How dare you come in werewolf territory ? » He asked.
« I need to see the leader of your pack. » I anwered.
« What for ? »
« Where is he ? » I said, ignoring his question.
I walked towards the door in the back, which must be the kitchen. It opened before I reached it. Through it came a young man with brown hair and a fierce look.
« What do you want ? »
« I need to talk to you. »
He looked at me, waiting.
I glanced at the other people in the room.
« In private. »
He looked at me and sighed loudly. Then he turned around and got back in the kitchen. I followed him. He looked at me with his hands on his hips.
« So ? »
I showed him my forearm. He stared in shock, then shoved me in a dark room.
« Hey ! What are you doing ? »
He didn't answer and closed the door behind him. In the dark, I heard him ruffle through boxes as I continued to ask him to let me out. I could't find the door. I knew he was a werewolf but how could he have such good night vision ? This is amazingly useful ! He came back to me. He started to attach something to my wrist while I tried to let go of him. After a while, I understood they were chains.
He went back to the door and switched on the light. I was attached to the wall, I could barely move.
« Hey ! Let go of me ! I am not going to turn into a werewolf, I just want to know who did this to me ! »
« This is for your own good. »
« No ! You don't understand ! I am not going to turn ! Tell me who did this ! Please don't leave me ! Please ! »
I screamed the last word as he turned off the lights and closed the door behind him.
« No ! Please... »
For what seem like days, I stayed here, trying to break free of the chains, thinking about how violent the werewolves are. I might have descended into madness if I hadn't heard a key turn in the locket of the door. It opened and a little sparkle of light illuminated my feet. I lifted my head.
« I told you I wouldn't turn into a werewolf... »
My voice trailed down. The light had been turned on, and there he was. Or, in fact, there THEY were : two little mysterious green eyes, of that apple green I could lose myself into if I wasn't careful.
In a quarter of a second, I was to my feet, my face flashing red.
It was him !
« WHO ARE YOU ???!! »
