(Alex's pov)
I stood near the vent in the boys bathroom, blowing smoke rings towards the slits of sunshine. I hardly even noticed when the bell rang, signifying the first class of the new year.
"ew."
i leaned against the cool tile, blowing more rings. I wanted to wait for the halls to be totally clear before I started to go to class. getting beat up on the first day of school didn't seem like the most appealing idea. I waited a while before I threw my cigarette on the grey tile floor and stubbed it out with my dirty vans, walking towards the door.
I poked my head out first, making sure that the coast was clear, before I began to make my way to first period biology.
school was NOT my happy place. it hated it. it was more like a prison here than anything. no cute girls, no good food, no skating, no smoking and always getting picked on by someone bigger. it was hell.
I kicked an abandoned pencil across the silent hall, and then looked up. footsteps. fast footsteps. coming this way. could be a student...could be a teacher...or could be someone I owed money to, which was even worse. suddenly a reddish blur rounded the corner, before smacking into me with a head on collision. I fell backwards and so did the blur. I sat up and opened my eyes to discover that the reddish blur was actually a reddish haired girl. a beautiful reddish haired girl. she had a nose ring a little black gauges, as well as huge blue eyes.
"shit. oh my god I am so sorry." she stammered as she stood up.
"really. wow. I'm. ah shit. do you know where biology is?" she asked.
"yeah. it's uh. I'm going there right now." she was going to the same class? incredible.
"really? sweet. okay. I'm avrielle and I'm really late. you?"
"Alex. hi. I like your shirt."
"oh. wow. thanks. I went to one of their shows back in Florida. shouldn't we like..go now?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.
"yeah, yeah. this way." I ran a hand through my curly hair. did I look okay? did I smell okay? shit she's looking at me. wait not anymore. okay. okay good. all good.
we arrived at the door to biology quickly, quicker than I would've liked and walked in. luckily the teacher wasn't there yet. I pointed avrielle to some empty desks in the back of the class and we hurried to take a seat.
everyone watched us as we walked towards the windows. what if they thought we were together? oh god. what if they thought we were together. shit. I sat down in front of her and she slid Into the seat behind me.
paper airplanes whizzed overhead and kids threw pens across the room. the biology teacher was notoriously lax about behavior policies, or any policies really. no one was worried about getting caught. I turned around to say something to her, but she was already buried in her phone, texting at lightning speeds. oh well. she would be sitting behind me for the rest of the year. I had plenty of time to make say something.
