Mary's father, Stanley, died a long time ago when Mary was just 2 years old. Despite her age, Mary knew a lot about her father. She didn't know him visual wise, except that he had no thumb on one hand. Mary always remembered what he did for her and the fun games he played, including ball and tag, even some other made up games. Stanley loved Mary, and Mary loved Stanley. 1 year later, Mary just started to learn how to talk, and started to communicate with her dad more. She couldn't talk to him long though. They both had work, Cathie and Stanley. They both go home at the same time, and Mary would arrive an hour earlier. Her grandma picked her up from school. She waits at her grandma's until Mary's parents come home, but their ride to their house was long, so Mary always arrived late. It all happened on a normal day. Mary's grandma, Nancy, was driving her to her house. Mary was looking at all the other houses, as she always did, watching the neighbors continue with their daily lives. Two houses away from Mary's house, they heard a blood curdling scream. As Nancy approached the house, she saw Cathie running out of the house screaming. She said that she was going to the store to get something to eat, but when she came back, Stanley was dead, stabbed in the face and in the thigh. There was blood everywhere. Nancy and Mary looked in horror, they didn't believe what they were hearing. Mary didn't understand anything but in her mind she heard "Daddy, gone." A week later, they did an autopsy on Stanley to determine the cause of death. After a couple of tests, they determined that it was a homicide, and the weapon was a knife. Judging by the wound, the knife was sharpened shortly before use and the design was slim and had 9 circles. The whole family was devastated. Mary doesn't remember much, since she was little, but she does remember seeing her mother get up from the bed and go to different rooms sometimes at night. She missed the games she played with Stanley. Stanley's funeral kind of messed with Mary's mind a little. She thought her father was sleeping forever and was too lazy to get up. Mary would sometimes forget that her father passed away and she would tell her mom,"Mommy tell dad it's not work!" Cathie felt sad for her, Mary was young and didn't know much about the world, and she definitely doesn't know the dark depths of the world.
