The car ride to the school was silent. When they arrived, Mary's friend, Jake, was waiting for her. "Hey Mary! Can't wait for Friday!" Cathie heard him talking. "What's on Friday?" Mary hesitated. "Nothing mom! Let's just... head for class!" Mary shoved Jake into the school entrance. Jake was confused. "What was that all about?", he said. " Didn't you tell your mom?" Mary shook her head. "No." She looked back and saw her mom drive away from the campus. She hesitated. "Let's just go to class, we have a test today." They both went down the hallway. "Wait what test?", Jake said.
Mary looked at him. "The test in 3rd period." Jake was confused. "What's that?" Mary looked away. "Math." Jake was not the best at math. He would often turn in homework with wrong answers and drool from sleep. "Did you study?" Mary looked at him, concerned. "No." Jake wasn't worried. "I don't give a crap if fail, I mean, why would I do something I don't want to do? Besides, I not even good at math, even if I tried I'll get a failing grade." Mary shrugged. "True, true." As Mary approached her class, Jake continued down the hall. Mary's first period was language arts. Her teacher, Mrs. Lopez, greeted her at the doorway. After everyone was seated, Mrs. Lopez made her way to the front of the classroom. "Good morning my wonderful children!", she shouted. "We don't have enough time, so we're going to jump straight into the lesson." Mary went to get a paper from her light blue, mesh backpack. I kid from behind threw a pencil at Mary's head. She ignored it, though it was thumping where it hit. The kid threw another pencil, this time it hit Mary's back. It was stinging. "Stop it.", Mary said sternly. The kid just laughed. It wasn't until the 3rd time that Mrs. Lopez noticed something. As the kid raised his hand to throw, Mrs. Lopez yelled at him. "What exactly do you think you're doing?", she screamed. The kid froze, his eyes going wide. "Nothing!", he replied in fear. Mrs. Lopez narrowed her eyes. "Go to the office Jacob." Jacob quickly got out of his chair and slammed it into the desk. Mary heard Jacob's name in alot of fights and in the office. Her anger increased a little.
