Girl Scout Cookies
Joe Leslie could hear the loud knocking echo throughout his house, disturbing him from his writing. Hoping whoever the devil is at his door would disappear, he ignores it, however minutes later and it comes again. He keeps waiting hoping they'd disappear, yet it persists and eventually he has no choice but to make his way downstairs, grumbling curses all the way. He swings the door open to be met with the sight of a furious young woman.
Caroline couldn't believe the nerve of the man before her. She'd ignored his antics just like the rest of the town but when her daughter had come home yesterday crying about him; she decides she can't take much more of the old sod. Not that he's that old. Just a few years added to her 28. Which is why it's a wonder why he's so antisocial and grumpy all the time. Caroline figures it must have been something to do with his past but even so that does not give him the right to be so rude to little girl scouts only coming to sell cookies. Everyone has hardship in their past; even Caroline.
Her boyfriend Mike died several years ago in the army leaving her alone with just their little girl, but Caroline doesn't complain to every living soul and take her anger out on the world. She despises the fact that Joe Leslie is so selfish that he does that to the harmless innocent folk of their small town. But she could ignore it; until now. Now she's really going to give the man a piece of her mind and really set him straight. Something she arguably should have done years ago.
"What?" barks Joe eyes scanning the dark haired woman; her dark chocolate strands are straight with bangs brushing at her forehead; her eyes are a pale cornflower blue and so contrasting to her dark hair and lashes; her skin is pale despite the sunshine almost every day; and her simple clothes accentuate her slim body. All in all, she's pretty. Perhaps he'll use her as inspiration for his next novel.
"Mr Leslie, I need to talk to you about my daughter," states Caroline folding her arms under her chest with eyes glistening with anger and determination.
"Go away. I don't know your daughter, lady. And I sure as hell don't want to talk to you about her," grumbles Joe about to close the door on her, when a slim hand crashes onto the door and stops it.
"Well then let me talk and you listen. You never know Mr Leslie you may actually learn something useful," bites back Caroline.
Joe's eyes narrow and he scans his two neighbouring houses to see Peter Johnson pretending to water his lawn whilst listening into the conversation.
Ah, fúcking hell.
Joe starts to quickly realise that the woman's not going to go and if he doesn't want to make a scene she'll have to come inside and say whatever the fúck it is that she so desperately needs to.
"Fine. You can come inside but say what you have to and get out in 5 minutes. Got it?" growls Joe running a hand through his sandy brown hair.
It's only when Caroline steps past the man into his home that she realises just how...hot Joe Leslie is. God knows what he does for a living, because he is a full out recluse, but whatever it is, he sure keeps himself fit. His arms are bare and exposed in the white wife-beater he wears; they're all tanned and muscular, which is the same for his expansive chest. Where the white material sticks to him, she can make out some definition to his abdominals. His legs are in a pair of grey joggers that slant at his hips and drag at his heels. Both those along with the scruff of light brown stubble on his chin and cheeks, complete his slobish appearance. But even looking like a slob, he's gorgeous.
Too bad he's the epitome of sour, bitter and grumpy.
Joe shuts the front door but offers to lead her nowhere. He spins around to glare at her, with arms crossed over his chest and shoulders rolled back.
"5 minutes-go," he demands.
Caroline feels her metaphorical feathers bristling. The nerve of the man! How arrogant can you get?!
"My daughter came home crying yesterday evening because of your rudeness. She's only 10 for God's sake! Don't you think you could have been a little bit nicer to her?!" cries Caroline, the fury of a mother unleashing on Joe.
Yet he just stands there coolly cocking an eyebrows and then retorting, "listen lady; maybe your daughter just needs to toughen up. I don't like visitors and I sure as hell don't want some fúcking cookies from a little girl."
Caroline fists her hands by her sides and chants to herself not to hit the prick. Despite him really, really asking for it. She sure could sweet talk the Sherriff but what kind of an example would that set for her daughter?
