A moon had passed, and Dustpaw was following Waspsting into the forest. He stopped.
"Alright, Dustpaw. Let's test your tracking skills," the tabby said. " You have to track me down. I'll go in any direction, and after the sun hits that branch, you come and find me," he pointed his tail at a branch. Dustpaw nodded, and Waspsting headed into the forest, leaving Dustpaw to watch the sun hit the branch. Finally, the sun passed behind it, and he stood up and lifted his nose. He scented the faint smell of his mentor, and began to follow it, looking around. He could also scent the faint smell of Smokeheart, who had gotten his warrior name a while ago.
He was still following Waspsting's scent when another cat smell wafted into his nose, and he stopped.
"A cat!" He whispered to himself. It wasn't clan cat scent, so it must be rogue or kittypet. He crouched down and followed it. Through the undergrowth, he saw the intruder. It was a beautiful white she-cat, with bright unique ginger stripes, and brilliant forest green eyes. She was about the size of an apprentice. She looked around and sniffed. He couldn't stop looking at the she-cat for some reason, and he felt warm inside. Then he shook his head. Protect you clan first, Dustpaw, he thought to himself. Crouching down more, he leaped onto her, and she yelped in surprise.
"Who are you and why are you on Thunderclan territory?" He hissed. He was surprised to find the she-cat go limp under his paw, and he gave a hmp of satisfaction. Suddenly, She shot up, throwing him off. She placed a paw onto his chest and looked down. Her green eyes were blazing.
"My name is Agnes, and I want to join the clans," she said. Her voice was lovely and smooth, but still powerful. But Dustpaw was still shocked to hear this.
"What?" He asked, confused. He pushed her paw off and stood up, shaking his fur out. After a moment, he breathed out.
"We'll, I suppose I should take you to Mothstar," he mumbled, but secretly he was glad "Agnes" would be coming with him. He flicked his tail for her to follow him, and he looked behind him to see that she was still there every few moments. But Agnes was only looking around, amazed at the forest's size. He stifled a rough purr in his throat, and continued on. Soon they reached the barrier. He moved his tail, motioning for her to stop.
"Okay, follow me and don't make a paw out of line, alright?" He said in a low voice. Once she nodded he stepped through the barrier with Agnes following. Almost immediately, Nightwhisker's voice broke the air.
"Who's that?" He asked, and Dustpaw winced as more cats looked at him and Agnes. He could tell Agnes was uncomfortable as well underneath the cat's gaze. Mothstar saw them and padded over.
"I am Mothstar, leader of Thunderclan. And you are?" She asked.
""I'm Agnes. I used to be a kittypet, but I ran away to come here. I've heard about the clans,"
A kittypet? Mothstar nodded. "Come with me to my den and we can discuss this. Swallowheart and Dustpaw, you come as well,"
At his name, he padded next to Agnes. Swallowheart looked up and followed them. He stepped inside the leader's den and sat down. Swallowheart spoke first, asking Agnes how many moons old she was. She replied with six moons.
"Our clan is small, and it seems like you know a bit about clan life. Where did you hear about the clans exactly?" She asked, and Agnes began her story.
"I know this loner who lived near the twoleg den named Martin, and he told me about Thunderclan, Shadowclan, Windclan, Riverclan, and Skyclan. He said he noticed my crouch when I would practice in the den yard and said I would do good in Thunderclan, so yesterday I escaped my twoleg den and Dustpaw pounced on me, but I bounced back," Agnes explained. He gave his chest fur a few embarrassed licks when she told them about how she flipped him off her back. Did she really have to tell about that part? Once she was done, Mothstar and Swallowheart exchanged a look.
