You wake up, or at least you think you do. You can't remember where you are, or why you were there, or even what your own name was.

There was a voice. You can understand the words now.

"Howdy! I'm Flowey! Flowey the flower!" The voice squeaks.

You can't locate the voice. There isn't anyone down there other than yourself. Flowey. What an odd name. Flowey the Flowe-

No.

Flowers can't talk.

There is not a talking flower down here.

There are no talking flowers anywhere.

Yet you can't find another thing that could be talking. There is a flower in front of you, bigger than the rest. It looked as if it were smiling.

No, it was smiling.

You stumble back in surprise as the flower grins at you.

"That was quite a fall! I hope you're ok. This place is the Underground! You're clearly new here, so I'll explain what things are like!" The smile is almost friendly, as if it really was a trusted friend giving you advice.

"Down here, there are monsters. I bet you want to get out of here and go back home right?"

You nod and Flowey continues to talk.
"There is only one way out of the underground. Our king is collecting human souls, as enough of them can get us all out! However, since he needs to get all of the monsters out, he needs seven. You could get out with only one! You already have it, inside of you! All you need to do is get to the magical barrier that separates us from the human world!"

You are starting to understand. All you need to do is get to the barrier to escape.

"The king has six souls, but he needs seven. Since you are the last soul he needs, many monsters will try and kill you so they can all be free!"

Your thoughts of how easy it would be stop abruptly. Monsters would be trying to kill you? That would make it much more difficult to escape.

"The only way to keep the monsters from killing you is to kill them yourself. Once they are dead, they can't battle you anymore! Since I'm showing you how things work, I may as well show you how to battle a monster!"

Then your vision goes black and you enter a battle screen.
