1 - Run from me

Mary-ann had nothing to lose. They were already chasing her. It wasn't really her fault! She just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

So this was what happened. She stumbled into an abandoned warehouse in the middle of nowhere. She was kinda lost and she didn't know where the main road was so when she found the warehouse, she almost cried with tears! But she didn't notice the cameras in the corner that were patrolling her every move. The security guard watching the cameras saw Mary-ann and used his radio to tell that there was an intruder on the grounds. But the guys in charge didn't want the police on their case so they went to deal with it themselves. That's when she met them and tried to reason with them which was her first mistake.

"Hi guys, do you know where the main road is? I've been searching everywhere."

The guys looked at each other. They knew they were safe for the moment but they needed her to go if they wanted to continue. They were about to talk when a scream rang out and a man covered in blood came out and said something she didn't understand at the time in Portuguese.

"It's done Mario. Romeo."

Mary-ann now knew she had wandered into something dangerous. She backed away slowly, mumbling apologies to them, did a 180 and ran out of the warehouse. Which caused them to start chasing her.

And that was how she found herself in this predicament. It was purely incidental! If her car hadn't broken down, none of this would have happened. She would not be running for nearly 8 miles now without stopping, which reminds her, how do those men have stamina? A quick turn of the head was enough to make her run faster. One of the men had drew out his gun but he was not firing since she was running in zig-zags.

She was still thinking when she saw a police car down the road. Thank God, she thought as she ran up to it.

The cop inside was drinking his coffee, thinking about how boring his day was when a girl jumped in and started to shout at him.

"Go! What are you waiting for? Step on it, those men have a gun!"

He didn't need no telling twice but he didn't like being told what to do. He was about to give the girl a piece of his mind, like what right does she have to just jump in a cop car and start issuing orders when the back seat glass exploded and they were thrown forward from the impact.

Well, now he did what he was told to do.

The car chase was long and Mary-ann didn't know if she could just the man that was driving. What if they were all connected and he was taking her back to the warehouse where she will be never seen again? The cop looked over at her, seeing her face scrunched up, anxiety written all over her face, spoke to her.

"Stop looking so nervous. I'm the one who has to drive from the esquisitos (weirdos)."

Mary-ann couldn't whip her head fast enough as she narrowed her eyes at the cop. Surely his face looked familiar. Although she couldn't put her finger on it.

"Excuse you? I had to run for more than 8 miles in converses, which by the way are ruined. Had a gun pointed at me, jumped into a police car and asked them to drive even though when I see them outside of my school, I get scared like they're coming for me-"

"Why are you still complaining? I have to pay for my car getting ruined, the glass smashe-"

"Oh, so you wanna get down and ask them for your money? Be my guest!"

"Don't start with me, I didn't ask you to come inside my car and act like you know everythin-"

Mary-ann cut him off with a flick of her hand and positioned herself that she would be staring out of the window and not looking at the officer. The officer exhaled his breath through his nose and took sharp turns to avoid the men chasing them. Did this pouco tagarela (little chatterbox) not trust him? He was an officer for crying out loud! He would not randomly wear an officer’s uniform, drive a cop car and put the siren on for fun. Where was the sense in that?
