Mason rings the doorbell and my heart is racing, I'm nervous but my family is surprisingly really chill about this and I trust it, so I open the door and let Mason in. He met my family and it went really well, him, my dad, and my grandpa talked about hunting and fishing and compared stories almost all of dinner. I had to cut them off before we were going to miss the movie. What really made me happy was that my dad pulled me aside and told me "there are so many fish in the sea, but you just reeled in a keeper" then he kissed me on the forehead and told me to have a good time. I could tell my dad was happy and sad. I know he was happy because he knows that I've found joy in again, and he loves seeing me and Sam happy. I know he was sad because I'm the first born and this is the first time he's had to go through this, and he's realizing that I'm not the little girl whose life was just about horse riding, going to competitions, and fishing on the weekends, he realized that I'm growing up and things are changing. I could tell he was trying to hide his emotions, but that's one thing us Fosters don't do well, none of us can hide our emotions, especially not from our family.
(Mini time skip)
Mason, Sam, and I pulled up to the movie theater and hopped out of grandmas old Ford Bronco (that's the thing about living in Tulsa, all the locals drive trucks and jeeps, if you ride around town in your little Honda Accord, you'll get looked at like you have a third eye) waved goodbye and walked up to the ticket booth. I went to pay for me and Sam's ticket, but Mason moved in front me and payed for all three of our tickets, I did not expect him to do that, I offered to pay him back, but he refused. When we got to the snack bar I thought it was only right for me to pay for all of our popcorn, drinks, and candy. Being at the movies with Mason was different from when I would go with just me and Sam or with Amanda or Kelly, when us girls would go we would always run into some guys from our school (because we live in such a small town) and they would sit with us and some would think that they're slick and they would try to get away with things. I would have to turn away or get up and make the "I need to go to the bathroom" excuse to get me out of those situations. Mason was really different, he wasn't there to try and get in my pants or make a quick move and lean in and try to kiss me. He just wrapped his arm around me and just let me watch the movie with him, he was a gentleman, which those are so rare to find these days.
The movie ended around 9:15 ish and Masons foster mom picked us up at 9:30. "Hey Jenn" Mason said as we got into her 4 door Toyota Tacoma. "Hi Ms. Grey, it's nice to meet you" I said politely "Hello Tay, you can call me Ms. Jenn or just Jenn if you would like" Ms. Jenn said with a warm smile on her face. She has such a pretty smile, clear skin, long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She reminds me of what my mom used to look like.
"Now who is this, I've heard lots about the pretty blonde girl, but I know nothing about the adorable greenish blueish eyed girl!" Ms. Jenn said talking about Sam
"This is my little sister Sammie, she really wanted to see Spiderman, so I thought it would be good to let her tag along, so she could just hang out with Mason and I" I told Ms. Jenn
"Well it's nice to meet you Sammie" Ms. Jenn said
"It's nice to meet you too Ms. Jenn" Sam said with a nice smile
On the way home, we talked about the movie and all of our favorite parts, of course Sam was the first one to say that her favorite part was when Tom Holland was shirtless, but do I really blame her, absolutely not. Once we got to the house Sam said goodbye and she thanked Mason for buying her ticket, and then she automatically rushed to my dad and latched on to him like she hasn't seen him in years, she will always be a daddy's girl. Once they were done with their reunion, dad met Ms. Jenn, and I hugged Mason goodbye and I said thank you to him for buying my ticket and I thanked Ms. Jenn for giving me and Sam a ride home, after that they drove off and me, Sam, and my dad all went inside. Once the door was shut Sam started teasing me and said to my dad that I didn't even watch the movie because I was too busy kissing Mason. Then she ran around the kitchen chanting "Tay's got a boyfriend, Tay's got a boyfriend" it didn't take long for my short temper to kick in and then it turned into a wrestling match in the living room, this is my family's type of normal. When we were done "fighting" we sat there and laughed and then Sam looked at my dad and told him that she was just kidding and all we did was watch the movie. I told dad about how he payed for all of our tickets and he respected my space and he wasn't all over me like other guys have been in the past. My dad knows all about the times when I had to make up excuses to get out of sticky situations, that's why pepper spray is a gift I receive monthly. A couple minutes later Mimi came down from the upstairs kitchen with a huge plate of cookies in her hand.
"Oh Tay, why don't you give some of these to Mason to take home"
"No, it's okay, he left about ten minutes ago, they just dropped me and Sam off and met dad out front, I'm really glad that he didn't stay much longer"
"Oh honey, did things not go so well tonight" Mimi said as she wrapped her arm around my shoulders.
"Everything went great" I said with a smile "But as much as I love hunting and fishing, I don't know how much longer I could've listened to Mason, Dad, and Papaw talk about their stories that we've heard almost one hundred times"
"That makes two of us" Mimi said as we both started to laugh.
