Chapter fourteen | Don't Trust No
The moment my shoes made contact with the white tile floors of Redwood high I felt a sudden wave of depression wash over me. School is so draining, and I'm honestly so tired of waking up early every morning to come to this freaking school.
My eyes quickly found Tamir, leaning against a row of lockers, he held a book to his face. I didn't hesitate to make my way over to him. His face was buried into a book so he didn't notice me at first, but when he did, he looked up at me with a soft smile. "Wassup Wynter." He greeted closing the thick book.
I sent him a friendly nod before looking down at the thick book he was holding. Romeo & Juliet were scribbled in cursive across the cover. "You're such a cliché." I snorted, shoving him lightly. Tamir chuckled before shoving the book into his brown leather satchel.
"Spoiler alert- They die at the end." I foretold.
Tamir rolled his dark eyes, fixing his reading glasses that rested on the bridge of his nose. "I know that. Everyone knows that."
"Then why are you reading the stupid book if you already know the ending?" I questioned, walking to my locker and Tamir followed behind.
He rested against the row of lockers folding his arms across his chest, "Because the book is such a classic. The movie was decent, but it's doesn't do the book justice. I've read this book four times already and each time feels like anew-like I've missed something the time before."
I could literally feel my eyes touch my brain, as they rolled to the back of my head as I listened to Tamir talk about that stupid book. He's such a bookworm and it kills me. He says that reading is his little escape from the real world, he says when he's reading he travels to another world or whatever. I can't relate.
"Do you ever want your own love story Wynter?" Tamir asked as I shoved some books into my locker with a few others already crammed in there. I turned to him with my face scrunched up at his question. "Me? Have a love story? No thank you." I answered closing my locker.
