there is a difference between idol rappers and rappers and before glorifying all your favorite idol rappers,, i'd like to give out an opinion or two about what makes em different
so rappers in korea are known to be from the underground scene. they were rappers when they started out and will always be. there's no other label for them, just 'rapper'. these guys can be signed to an agency or not and i think theyre really just waiting to have a shot in the limelight through shows like smtm.
idol rappers are different, already with the term 'idol' in their name, this sets them apart and the prejudice is still very much alive. and some are... well not great. there really is a difference between rapping and talking really fast to a beat for a bridge of a song.
though there is smtm, highschool rapper, unpretty rapster; the difference is clear but it's not always bad.
some idol rappers in my opinion are worthy of being called rappers. and this is because they've really shown their skills, not just in shows or performances but also by what they've created. rappers i feel need to be able to do a few things:
1. produce and compose music, including writing the lyrics to the songs 2. perhaps doing a solo work of his/her own
i'll further with examples
chanyeol is a producer for a some of exo's side tracks. he also writes lyrics for some songs (SWEET LIES holy crap) and is very much a big part to their song making process. his rapping is good and has gotten so much better because exo now has a few songs that are more rap dominant (forever omfg). and since chanyeol did want to be a vocalist and because he is a great singer... i would say he was a musician. he's like the full package

bi and bobby, i'll say this as a duo because they're like gd and top. i think they've earned the right to be called rappers. they did smtm, they've collaborated with multiple rappers (epik high, masta wu, dok2, the quiett) and they make all of their songs. these two are the basis of the group's existence and i think deserve more recognition for how good they are uGhh

rm, suga, jhope. jhope is a dancer and i don't particularly like his voice for rapping. although, with hixtape, it's clear that's he's got his own thing and i respect that. suga and rm are both pretty much underground rappers. especially rm. i don't know much abt their solo stuff because i'm not particularly interested. i just feel like their voices aren't very pleasant to hear (it's not honeydew deep like chanyeol or husky like bobby) and that's just me being biased but i really like namjoon so.

jooheon and changkyun. these two meanwhile have such nice voices to listen to. im's deep voice with the combination of jooheon's screeches sound surprisingly good together. and they do participate in making lyrics and composing their songs together. i like these two a lot actually lmao maybe its just me

there are some other notable idol rappers who are just really good musicians in my opinion and compose such good tracks as a solo artist.

potential wise. the stray kids boys, changbin and jisung are the best jyp rappers EVER in my opinion. they deserve more recognition for it
