I checked my watch nervously, Sabrina said she would meet me after school but she's nowhere to be seen. Maybe she forgot or something came up. Sighing to myself, I turned away from the wrought iron gate and took a step away from the building.
"Wait up!"
I whipped my head around to see Sabrina strolling nonchalantly towards me. She gives me a grateful smile but I don't return it.
"Why are you so late? You know my parents freak out easily." She giggles into her hand and wraps her arm around my neck in a hug. "Some things never change, do they?"
I cross my arms I front of my chest and let out a huff. "What do you mean by that?"
Sabrina then lifts her hand to poke my nose. "You're still a goody two shoes and your parents are still strict. I rest my case."
I let out a sigh of disbelief, this really is my Sabrina, she still has a hard head. The only noticeable difference is her looks. "Hey Sabrina, you have a ton of explaining to do. Start with why you disappeared."
She lowered her head slightly at my demand. "Well I was kidnapped, but they saved me and became my new family. Always watching out for me."
I nod my head trying to understand her story, something isn't quite right though. "Why did you come back just now?"
Sadness overtook Sabrina's face and I immediately felt bad about asking.
"We were never supposed to come back, or even move from where we were."
The grief in her voice was very obvious, but soon she was smiling and teasing me.
"So have you had a boyfriend since I was gone or did you stay a quiet little bookworm?"
I playfully shoved her shoulder and she moved a few inches. "We were both quiet but you were into music instead of books."
Sabrina stuck her tongue out at me and shoved back. "You really haven't changed! And by the way music is so much cooler than books."
At that moment I accidentally bumped into someone, I turned to look at the stranger and apologize. When I looked at the person's face it was clear that he was a guy.
He has a very handsome face with golden yellow eyes framed by dark shaggy brown hair that is almost black. Based on just looking at him, he has a lean but muscular body and he's looks about a year or two older than me.
"Hey! Watch where you're walking." He growled with a mean glare.
I blinked once. Twice. Then it hit me, his harsh words and glare are directed at me.
"U-ummm s-s-sorry I wasn't paying attention." I squeaked out.
The man looked even more annoyed at me than before. "Well then start paying attentio-."
He never got to finish speaking because a certain silver-haired girl punched him in the face. "Hey Eli! Next time you try to scare someone look at your surroundings first!"
The man, who I'm assuming is Eli, stares at Sabrina with a stunned look, she returns it with a glare that could curdle milk.
"Sabrina, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be heading home right now."
Eli rubs his reddened cheek and awaits an answer.
"I'm catching up with a dear friend who I haven't seen in a long time."
I lightly tap Sabrina on the shoulder to remind her that I'm still standing here. She turns and nods at me to show that she got the message.
"How rude of me, you two haven't been properly introduced. Eli the girl you ran into is a good friend of mine, I'm sure you remember me mentioning her quite a few times."
The boy looks at me with surprise written all over his face. "So you're Katie! The marvelous girl that she never shuts up about." Eli offers his hand out for a handshake and flashes me a flirty smile.
"Katie, this jerk who scarred you is my brother Eli."
I shake his hand and quickly retreat back behind Sabrina. She takes the hint and just begins walking again, not even noticing the look of confusion in Eli's eyes.
The rest of my walk home we didn't talk much except for Sabrina telling me a few things about her new family, like that they all have golden eyes. Strange right?
After we said our goodbyes I walked into my house and ran up the stairs into my room. I'm completely worn out from meeting her brother, so tired that I don't remember falling asleep.
