Until I came to Earth I never needed sleep, but nevertheless I found myself comatose on an old moldy mattress in the dank basement every night. It relaxed and refreshed me. Sometimes I would even dream. I dreamt about returning to Hell after completing my mission, becoming a true Missionary to the world below. Tonight was no exception to these dreams, but something was different. A sharp pain in my head pulled me from my deep slumber. Still disoriented, I whipped my head around, trying to find the source of my discomfort. After taking a moment to come to my senses, I recognized it. Another demon was trying to contact me.

I took a deep breath and focused on the feeling, letting all my energy be drawn to it. It was more difficult to do here because I was weakened, but after a few moments the image started appearing. It was the man who called me to his office the day I took this mission. He was still dressed impeccably compared to me, with my disheveled hair and lack of a shirt since I had been sleeping. I don't think he has ever seen me fully clothed.

"Victor. I am contacting you on behalf of the Guard pertaining to your mission. This is only possible because it is All Hallows Eve, and we will not have another chance to speak again until you return to Hell. Explain your current situation," he spoke formally. I could tell that he was trying to rush this, so I nodded.

"I have to kill three teenage boys, Ronnie, Kellin and Jaime. Jaime is already dead. I killed him almost a month ago. I was going to wait before I killed the other two so I wouldn't draw suspicion to myself," I told him. The man nodded.

"Good. And no one has any idea it was you?"

"Not a clue," I said with a smirk. Although I didn't necessarily like killing Jaime, it was satisfying knowing that I had such power, such control over these people. I was always one step ahead, and that thought gave me a rush.

"Well, Victor, as you've proven to be more Missionary material than I first expected, you will be promoted as soon as you return. We have several jobs lined up for you after this one, but if you are to fulfill them you will have a deadline. You must return from your current mission by November 28th, or the missions will be assigned to someone else. Do we have an understanding?"

I let his words sink in. I have less than a month? That seemed hardly fair. I was planning on being here for a few more months at least, but work is work. I have to do what they tell me.

"Yes sir," I said with a nod.

"Good. I'll be waiting for you," the man said, and in a flash he was gone. I was sitting alone in the dark basement again, now even more exhausted than before. I laid back down with a sigh and let sleep overtake me.

Kellin had mentioned before that the school likes to go all out for Halloween, and when I arrived there the following morning, I realized that he wasn't lying. The halls were covered in decorations and black and orange streamers lined the walls. It was kind of hilarious how humans perceived Halloween, with all these gaudy witches and monsters. Down in Hell it's known as the one day the souls can escape and get a glimpse the living, which means it's a day off from work for me because there's no one to torture.

After discussion of how stupid the school looked this year, Kellin and Ronnie decided that instead of going to a big Halloween blowout this year, they would take it easy and just hang out at Ronnie's with some alcohol and shitty horror movies. Surprisingly enough, they even invited me along. I definitely wasn't going to pass up an opportunity to see what those two got up to on a night like Halloween.

Of course, there was one problem. Kellin insisted that we all wear costumes. What was I supposed to dress up as? Do I go scary or funny? Cheap or expensive? Not that it mattered because I would be stealing it anyway, but still.
