I woke up, my eyes swollen and red. Combing a hand through my hair, I sat up and groaned, recalling the events of last night. I grabbed my phone off the side table, not realizing how much I hoped he'd messaged or called whilst I slept. As the screen lit up, there were messages from Deena, wanting details of what had happened, and just as I was about to reply, I heard the door buzz. Dragging myself out of the bed, still wearing the clothes from last night, I opened the door and Dee looked at me wide eyed. "Oh honey...".

I put my head down trying to keep more tears from streaming down my already swollen eyes. She embraced me into a long hug. "Tell Momma Dee all about it babygirl." She said calmingly as we walked further into the apartment. After spilling every detail to her, I sat on the couch, wrapped in a plush blanket.
"He just... pushed me away. What if I pushed too far? What if I disgusted him?" Tears filled my eyes before I could stop them. Was I over thinking? Dee rubbed my knee.

"You're perfect, please stop doing this to yourself. He's just one guy." She leaned down to look into my eyes whilst my face was down. "At least he didn't take advantage of you, and then ghost." True. She was very right. I chuckled at the thought. Wiping away my tears, I finally came to calm myself.

"You're right. Let me sulk for a little bit. I'll be back to normal in no time." I began to collect myself as I considered how lucky I was that he didn't leave me out there or, like Dee said, take advantage of me and ditch.
Deena smiled a gorgeous white, toothy smile. "Sure, I've got you." She grabbed her keys and left. Coming back thirty minutes later, in one hand, she had three bags full of chips, ice cream, movies, candies and carbonated drinks and in the other, she had three large pizzas. "How long are we hibernating exactly?" She smiled again as she hauled everything into the kitchen. I smiled, knowing I couldn't find a better friend. Leaving her to go shower, I looked at my face in the mirror. Standing at 5'2" I couldn't see anything but my waist, up, in the mirror. The bathroom filled with steam and I stepped into my glass shower. Putting my face under the water, I pushed my drenched hair back and let the water run down my face. The smell of my cucumber melon shampoo and soap, washing away all the smells of nature from the previous night. When I emerged from the shower, I wrapped myself in my white towel and wiped away the steam in the mirror which automatically fogged back up. I brushed my teeth and my hair without looking back at the mirror. I'm beautiful. I didn't need a man right now. This is exactly why I don't like getting involved. Leaving the bathroom in a slightly better mood, I threw on a black spaghetti strap, tight crop top and a loose fit pair of grey sweatpants. I braided my hair into two French braids, neatly down to lay on my shoulders.
Plopping down next to Deena who made a makeshift mattress out of my couch cushions and a ton of blankets on top, with the snacks all laid out across it and the pizza on top of the cushionless couch. "What're we watching?" I asked as she gave me a surprised look by my outfit and hair. "What, you never seen my hair braided?"

She laughed and threw me a twizzler.
Picking up another, she said, "No bitch. I was just admiring how damn sexy you are. Like, how that fool gonna just push you away? Literally makes no sense." Smiling, I nudged her and looked at the screen. "So, what're you gonna do for money since you were fired?", Deena asked as the title popped up. Dirty Dancing... really? .... I didn't budge from the screen though.

"I don't exactly know yet. Get a job ... get two jobs to stay busy. I don't know." I shrugged and grabbed an icecream. "Yesss! Triple fudge brownie with chocolate. You know me too well!" I began to fake love cry to her. Shifting from her position, she gave me a suspicious grin. "What is Deena. What'd you do?" I rolled my eyes away from the screen to look at her eye to eye.

"Well, I know you needed to stay busy, so I got a family friend to hire you as a temp. It's not too far from here actually." I actually appreciated it more than I showed her.
