I hear foot steps outside the door. I need to get their attention, I roll over and scream, my leg hurts so bad. Then I kick a stack of boxes they all fall over with a loud crash. I just lay there breathing heavily then the door finally opens after about five minutes. I squint into the light coming from outside a man walks inside, he is taller than me or at least I think he is. He had short black hair, it was all combed over to the side. He has a pair of jeans on and a white t-shirt. He kneels down next to me.
"What happened?" He asks me. He lifts up my head and looks it into my eyes.
"He, he, he attacked me," I stutter then I'm out cold again.
I wake up in a hospital bed, there are tubes going into my arm. My head is throbbing, there are several people talking outside the door. I want them to know I'm awake but I don't feel like getting up, I can feel the pain still in my leg and yelling is too mainstream so I pull one of the IVs out of my arm and an alarm starts to go off. The door swings open and a bunch of people run in the room yelling things, but they all calm down when they realize what I just did. One of them just sticks it back in my arm then most the people walk out back into the hall. There are eight people left in the room, Mason, Matthew, Dr. Williams, Raymond, Courtney (that's how they found out about me), The man who found me last night and a man and a woman I don't know.
"James, can you tell us what happened earlier today?" Mason asks me. I sat up in the bed, I'm now wearing a hospital gown. I told them about the Spanish boy and him attacking me. No one said anything while I told them what happened.
"What were you doing going down to the gym?" Dr. Williams asks.
"I wanted to ask Dr. Rose about the elimination tonight, last night whenever the hell it is," I reply. No one says anything for a little while.
"The boy who attacked you earlier was at the top of the bottom three boys at the elimination and he was thinking that if he got rid of you he could stay in the competition," the woman I don't know says.
"James, this is Dr. Patricia Storm, she will be in charge of training tomorrow and this is Dr. Michael Rooney, he will be in charge of training on Friday," Mason says.
"So I guess I'm done," I say. Everyone in the room gives me a weird look.
"What do you mean 'you're done'?" Raymond asks me.
"I can't walk."
"We have something that will heal that about twenty times fast than your body could, you'll be able to walk by tomorrow," Courtney explains.
"You should start now," Dr. Rooney says. Everyone but Matthew, Courtney and the man who found me left the room. Matthew walks over to me and sits in the chair next to me, he looks worried and scared.
"They said I could stay with you through the procedure," he says. I feel like he's hiding something. It's the look in his eyes. When we were younger he never kept stuff from me so he has a harder time not telling me now without me noticing. It's like the time my mom and dad got divorced, he couldn't keep that from me because he never lied to me before.
"What are they not telling me?" I ask him, he takes a deep breath.
"The healing, it's really painful and you have to be awake when they're doing it," he says. I have to get him off this subject or he'll never forgive himself that he let this happen to me, when it wasn't his fault.
"Who's that?" I motion toward the guy who found me last night he never told me his name. He seems like a nice guy, since he went through the trouble to bring me here after he found me in the storage room.
"His name is Brent he sort of just helps out with what ever they tell him to," I guess he heard us because he waved at me when he heard his name.
"You ready kid?" Brent asks me.
I nod, "Yeah, do it," Matthew takes my hand and squeezes it. They strap me down to the bed so I don't move during the procedure.
"We are going to inject a booster into you bone that will make itself heal faster, there is a total of eight shots the first one is the easiest and they just keep getting more and more painful. The pain should fade away throughout the night and be completely gone by tomorrow," Courtney tells me. Brent walks over with a syringe, the needle is pretty big compared to most.
"On three. One. two. three," Brent says then he pushed the needle into my bone. I can't explain how painful it was, I was yelling out. Matthew squeezed my hand, he hates seeing me in pain. The needle is only in my for a few seconds but it feels like forever and that is only the first one. The second one hurts even more. The third one, even more.
"Stop it don't you see he's in pain!" Matthew yelled at them. I guess he doesn't want to see me like this anymore.
"I'm sorry, Matt, but everything gets worse before it gets better," Brent says and Courtney injects the fourth one. Matthew dives at Brent, he is on his back, but Brent is able to get him off, he punches him in the side of the head hard and Matthew falls to the floor hard. He just knocked out Matthew. The last four are just a blur. This is all my fault, this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for me. My parents divorce was my fault too.
