Chapter 5 (Jess)
I got out of the S.U.V. that Mica our nanny/maid/cook/driver was driving and entered the circle of people who were surrounding the car.
"Jess do you want me to take your bag?" Some football guy said.
I just kept walking and pushing my way through the crowd. I could hear Alex screaming, "EVERYONE! I'm Alee and I'm Jess's twin sister. Jess just wants to be left alone for a while she's gone through a lot and when she's ready she'll come talk to you. For now leave her and I alone. If you want to know stuff about what happened it was on the news for a week and you can go bug our cousins Alyssa and Christine who love attention."
Alex came up behind me and took my bag for me, "thanks" I whispered.
"What are sister's for?" she said as I hopped to the office on my crutches with her at my side.
The secretary made it so we had all the same classes so Alex would be able to help me get to class on time with my books.
Life went on with me going to the doctor every week just to make sure everything was still fine. It was like that for two months.
Alex and I would go to class together, sit next to each other as we were inseparable for real. Not like the thing Lexie and I used to have. Lexie was Miss Popular now that I wasn't there in her spot. She had changed in the short time she wasn't my nice, cute, best friend. She was the devil who made nasty comments on what people looked like or what they were dressed in.
I also found out Nick had moved to New York because of his dad's new job. When the police came to talk to me about the accident they told me that Nick had moved because he was assigned a new case and had to leave. They said he begged to stay with me but they couldn't have him on my case so he was transferred.
Alyssa and Christine rose to the top of the popularity chart in about ten seconds after everyone met them they were just so nice. They had all the guys wrapped around their fingers the same way I used to and Lexie does now. Alyssa is captain of every team she plays on and Christine is student council president and she organises all the schools events. They really were the perfect duo.
Lexie was afraid they were going to knock her out of her queen bee spot. I could see it in her eyes every time someone complemented one of the two. She took them under her wing and slowly took credit for stuff Alyssa and Christine were coming up with behind the scene.
After I got my casts off I started to do physical therapy every day. It was a long month and a miracle once again that I got full control over my body again.
When the doctor said I could start doing sports again I went straight to the phone and called my old swimming coach. For two weeks we did seventeen hours a week of swimming just to build up some muscle again.
I took it one step further and went back to doing ballet four times a week for an hour and a half each class. It hurt at the beginning but after another month I was back to my old skill level.
By the last week of winter I was snowboarding, skiing, swimming, and dancing. I was also doing gymnastics but I wasn't where I was before the crash. I could play tennis, soccer, basket ball, everything but my favourite thing. I was getting better at it but nowhere near as good as I was before. I was starting cheerleading but I wasn't ready to be on the schools team. I dropped all the other sports and focused on cheerleading, gymnastics and yoga.
I was a miracle with an awesome twin sister that was helping me win back my old life minus a few things but plus a few things.
I was coming in with a bang and my twin sister was coming in with a bang with me.
I quickly thought of the poem that my mom had painted on the wall of her art studio,
"Recipe for a miracle
1 cup tension
2 cups stress
1 teaspoon of guilt
2 heaping cups of limited time
¾ tablespoon of urgency
A dash of "No other Choice"
3 Heaping cups of faith
Fold ingredients gently into a bowl. Mix vigorously and add a few tears. You'll sweat a little as you knead the dough.
Pack it firmly between your hopes and dreams and form into a perfect little ball.
Sprinkle it with a little faith, rolling the ball in the flour until fully covered.
Place it under a veil of belief and allow it to rise.
Put it in an oven that has been pre-set at the perfect temperature for the heat of trials and tribulations.
Allow it to brown under the warmth of god's love. Remove after due season and allow to cool in the confidence of his promise.
Garnish with your praises. Arrange neatly on a platter of thankfulness and serve to friends, families and, oh yes, strangers...invite them too!
Pass on the recipe to all who request it and let them know that with this recipe, they have the makings of a miracle!
-Author Unknown"
My mom is what was making me push harder. My mom would want me to get back up and dust myself off like she told me to do when I fell off the beam in gymnastics. She was my inspiration just like the poem was to her.
