I was looking at the file but it was like I wasn't comprehending it like it wasn't real. I thought I heard John say something, but I was too lost in thought to hear him.
I was finally broken out of my thoughts by Puka rubbing up against my leg, and he let out a little whine. I looked down and his ears perked up, not in a happy way, but in a curious way.
"Coraline," John questioned, "can I see the file?" John held out his hand, and I gave him the file, still in a state of shock. "Where did you get this?" John asked Louis.
"It was sent to me anonymously," he said, "when I got it I immediately gave it to Darlean."
I was just staring at Puka, this can't be true, I thought, Mom would have never just let this go, she would have given it to the police. Wouldn't she?
John little shuck my shoulder, to get my attention and asked "Coraline? You ok luv?" I just shook my head, no. John turned to the others and said, "Can you give us a moment?" They all nodded and left. After they were out of eyeshot he turned to me and to my surprise hugged me and said, "We're going to figure this out, you're going to be ok." John's words did make me feel safer, but I couldn't help but think, What if she kills John, I've already lost my mother, I can't lose my father too. At the thought of losing a parent again, I started to cry. John pulled away, and asked me, "what's wrong?"
I didn't answer for a minute, but then I took a deep breath and said, "She said, she hates both of us. So, what if she kills you?" John just stared at me like there was no way he could die. "Your not immortal, and based on that file she is. She's been an assassin, for who knows how many decades, and she has ever failed to kill her target. So if she wants you, Zedd, chas, or any of you, your dead, and it's gonna be on me." I didn't want to keep talking, I was to upset, you I just walked upstairs, into my bedroom, and locked the door so no one would come and try and talk to me.
After sitting, and trying to make sense of this mess, I decided that I needed sleep so I got cozy PJ's and got ready for bed, and I was soon asleep.
