Doing the notification was the worst part of the job. Even if we worked with death, grieving relatives were hard to handle. Some were very emotional, some were not. Some was glad to find out about death and some just doesn't care.
"So who are we going to notify first?" JJ asked as he continued to type on his computer.
"Have you confirmed the location of his wife and son?" I asked.
"Yes! The son was on a dorm in his school across the country and his wife was a hundred mile at the middle of the ocean." Now, usually, we notify the wife first then the children but in this case, it seems that the son was more accessible at the moment. But I think I got a better way to get to the wife fast. "JJ! Does the ship got helipad?"
"Let me check." He typed something in his laptop and his eyes glittered in response. I already knew the answer so I stood out and marched towards the lieu's office.
Knock! Knock!
"Come in!" I entered and it was just my luck that the captain's also in the office. "You got something?"
"Yeah! We have verified the location on the son and wife." He motioned me to go on. "Son's around three hour drive from here and wife's at the middle if the sea."
"Go on."
"We would like to request for a heli-transfer to get the wife and if possible the son."
"You have my approval." It was the captain that answered. I knew the request won't be denied because of the nature of the case. Sometimes, high end cases has their perks. "I'll make some call and you lieu will update you."
I saluted and exited.
"Get ready JJ! We are going for a ride!"
"I was born ready partner! So when are we leaving?"
"As soon as the captain secure our ride. In the mean time, why don't you notify the ship's commander about our arrival and I'll get in touch with the school." I commanded and we both started making calls.
Only a few minutes had passed when the lieu walked out from his office with the captain in tow. "Nic! JJ! Get you ass on the roof in fifteen! The bird's at your disposal for the day!"
We took our jackets and marched out way to the roof top. A few moment later and we were both in the air. The helicopter was manned by two pilots and it can accommodate at least six passengers.
"I can see the cruise from here." JJ remarked.
We have already given instruction to the pilots. The cruise captain had also been informed and was told to keep our arrival at low. The cruise ship was at s steady and slow motion. It wouldn't be too hard to land.
As we were nearing the landing mark, the crew was there to guide our pilot and I believe was to welcome us. "We'll wait here for you."
"Thanks!" We both got out while and the captain greeted us with the handshake."
"Detectives." He shouted as the heli's fan was still making a loud noise.
"Captain!" He both shook his hand.
"We'll escort you to the casino where Ms. Robinson's currently playing with her friends." I nodded in thanks.
I have never been on the cruise before. The last ship that I was on was a navy battleship. The feeling and design was completely different. This ship was made to look like a hotel. The floor were carpeted. Different paintings and arts were strategically placed in the hallway. It smelled wonderful.
"In here please." The moment that we stepped in, I felt like I was shipped to Vegas. Different slots echoed through the room with a moderate jazz on the background. People screaming and yelling in every table. It was a rich man'd paradise. "Follow me here. She and her friends loved to play mah-jong. They were in one of the private function."
