"Right this way Detectives and Mrs. Robinson. Your son's waiting in the conference hall." The principal said as he guided us.
As we entered the room, the son was full of surprised when he saw his mother. "Mom? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in a cruise? Who are these people? Why are you crying?" He bombarded her with questions.
"Calm down Mr. Robinson." I politely said.
"Call me Edwin." He said. "What are the police doing here?" He must have saw our badges and gun to make that conclusion.
"I'm Detective Altman and this is Detective Jiggs." I introduced us. "We are here because of your father. I'm sorry to say that he was found dead at your home."
"Oh my! No... Dad..." He then looked at her mother and by the way she was crying, he knew that this was reality. "Mom!" They hugged each other and we gave them time to calm down.
"Edwin, we have a chopper outside that will take you back home but first can you confirm to us your location around past midnight till morning?" I said and his face enraged.
"You think I killed my father? I'm miles away! You think my mother killed him? She's at the middle of the ocean for crying out loud."
"You are not a suspect, we just want to rule you out. It's standard procedure. You're mother was in the middle of the ocean as you said and we already cleared her but you were just a drive away. As of this moment, we have not established any motives therefore everyone's a suspect." My explanation seemed to calm him down. It's hard but based on facts, it there was a high chance that a family member was involve in a crime.
"I was up until around four a.m studying for the exams."
"Anyone can vouch for you?"
"No. My room mate was out. I was alone."
"We have camera's in the hallway of the dorm if that can help." The principal added.
"I would like to seem them." He nodded and motioned me to follow him.
"What time did you entered your room?"
"I made it back around past nine. Football practice took longer than expected and I did some research on the library."
"Did you went out anytime past midnight?"
"Yeah... I think I went to get some coffee in the vending machine... I just don't know when."
"JJ, could you escort Edwin to his room to pack his things?" He nodded and then I looked at the wife. "Mrs. Robinson? Would it be okay to leave you here for a while?" She also nodded between sob.
"It won't take long mom. I'll just get my laptop and some stuff." He kissed her in the forehead and off they go.
The principal took me to the IT room which almost similar to the one in the cruise ship but larger. "Bob! Show us the footage of dorm three from nine last night onwards."
The IT guy started typing on the laptop. A few more stroke and we have verified Edwin's statement. He was seen entering the dorm around half past nine. "Could you fast forward it." After a few more minutes, he was seen exiting his dorm while yawning at around fifteen past two and made it back roughly ten minutes after. "Can I have a copy of this tape? Or would you need a warrant?" I asked and hoped that the Principal would be as helpful as the captain.
"The Robbinsons had donated a large sum of money in this school. Take whatever you needed."
I smirked at his statement. Being rich really has its perk. And it seemed like The Robbinsons was well liked people. "His father, Edward, graduated from this school. I was just a new professor back then. He was a great student. This was such an unfortunate event."
I left the IT room with a disc on my pocket. The alibis of the immediate family has been confirmed. Now we just need to interview them for possible motive and to find other suspects.
When we returned to the room, JJ and the Robinsons were waiting for me. "Everyone's all set." JJ said.
"Let's go then."
We landed safely at the roof of the precinct where we were welcomed by the Captain and Lieutenant. This being a high profile case was beginning to get to me. One thing I hated the most was politics and by the look of it, we need to solve this crime fast.
The mother and son was brought into a conference room since they weren't a suspect and lawyer doesn't needed yet.
To my annoyance, the Captain and Lieu joined us in the room. They were there to make sure I behave well. "Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, again I'm very sorry for your lost." I started which I think earned me a star from my bosses. "At around past five in a morning, we have received a call about your husband. Our Medical Examiner estimated the time of death to be around two in the morning. Both of your alibi have been confirmed via the footages in the cruise and in the dorm. And with that, I apologized for the invasion of your privacy." And base on the reaction of the higher ups, I'm handling this interview to their liking. They might as well give me a lollipop after this.
"To continue, we would like to ask if you knew anyone who might have done this." I paused. "Any friends that he might offended or business partners that he may overstepped? Anything will be helpful."
It was the wife you answered first. "Edward was a good and quiet man. He doesn't have a lot of friends so I don't know about those. He kept mostly to himself and buried himself to his work." She said in between sobs. "I'm afraid I don't have any idea about his business. I'm just a regular house wife."
The son comforted his mother while she talked and helped in calming the widow. He then spoke. "He was a great father! He taught me everything I know. Taught me how to ride a bike, threw a football and even court girls. I can't believe someone would have wanted him dead."
Based on the testimony of his family, the deceased was turning into saint. However, based on the information that I gathered from Lisa, it just proved that everyone had a dark side.
"As far as friends are concern, my father doesn't have a lot. And as far as business was concern, everything was good." He added.
You seemed to know a lot about your business.
"Yes. I was receiving copies of reports and statements. My father was already training me so I could take his spot after graduation and the he and mom can go on a trip." After hearing those plan, the widow and son burst into tears. It was getting too emotional now and so it was time to end this interview before my bosses butt in.
"Thank you both for your time. We will contact you once we found something. In the mean time, would you like to see the body?" I asked and looked at JJ, mentally asking him to take them.
They nodded and JJ caught me request and guided them.
"You did great today Altman!" The lieu said.
"Thank you sir."
"Now go and get me the killer ASAP!"
