Just as I’m leaving the school I see an unusual vehicle parked at the very back of the parking lot. I’ve never seen it before it’s a big black van with no windows or side doors, just one front door a windshield, a back door, and a big red stripe across the entire van. I see a man sitting inside. As soon as my eyes are able to focus on who it could be I almost faint. Inside that van is the man that was in the alley this morning. I want to run, hide, scream, anything, but that may draw attention to myself. Unless of course he is already watching me. I think to myself, Did I see that van this morning?  Did he follow me here?” I try to let it slip off my shoulders and climb onto the bus.

When I get home I grab my team suit, my warm ups, a couple bottles of water, and some snacks. Then my mom and I head to the meet. We’ve been driving for about 30 minutes and my mom tells me we should be there shortly. We are sitting at a stop light and I glance out the window and almost jump out of my skin. The man is in the car next to us. I try not to let it show that I’m scared, but on the inside I’m freaking out. I can feel him staring at me. My stomach tightens, I feel as though I may vomit. This stoplight is taking forever. Once we arrive at the meet I try to relax myself and get warmed up. We do some stretches and swim a couple laps.

Before I know it the second call for my event has just been made. I go over and check in with the referee. Next I step up onto a block. I take a few practice runs and dive in. The water temperature is perfect. My nerves have finally calmed down. I can start to feel the adrenaline rush through my body. I step up onto the block, get into stance, and wait for the gun. The referee is standing on the lifeguard chair. “Ready..”, he says. “Set..”, he says. “Bang!” goes the gun. I dive in and glide across the pool. I slowly rise to the surface and begin my freestyle. I’m about to reach the end so I go under and do a somersault pushing off the wall. Gliding to the the finishing I go into freestyle once more. I put my hands out searching for the wall. I can feel it coming. Finally I feel the cold wall against my hands. I hoist myself out of the pool and look around. I was the first one to finish! I can hear my team shouting and screaming for me from the stands. I feel ecstatic!
