Coming Out Poem

I was raised in a home were homosexuality was disgraceful.

Man and woman were to be together, anything else was just distasteful.

I grew up with the mentality

That all that I was meant to be

Was with a man.

Boy did I misunderstand.

Once I got to Junior high everything began to change.

Women became men, boys kissed, it was all so damn strange.

I began to see

Girls differently

And boys, I never cared.

It was making me... Scared

The first girl I ever loved had the prettiest purple hair.

She left me due to her family, I didn't find it fair.

I wouldn't eat

After each defeat.

I became what some would call

An insect on the wall.

I never thought that in my whole life, it would come to this.

Wanting to protect and hold a woman with my quiet kiss.

And I think it's time

To finally define

Myself and say...

"I'm coming out. Yeah, I'm gay"

So before you try to hold yourself back from who you are.

I'm telling you, being honest with yourself will get you far.

Don't care about what others think.

Let all your worries slowly sink.

Open your eyes to what is true.

Only know that you... Are you.
