My Demons

I tried to laugh them away,
But they learned to laugh back at me.

I tried to drown them with alcohol,
But they learned to swim better than anybody else.

I tried to sleep it off,
But they learned to narrate my dreams.

I tried to shut their voice out by playing music,
But they learned to harmonize with my tune.

I tried to write out the pain,
But they became the ink of my pen.

I tried to gain confidence to have the upperhand,
But they became the quiet whisper at the end of the day that told me I'll fail.

I tried to tune them out with songs,
But they became the genre of my playlist.

I tried to leave them behind for a new start,
But they pulled me right back by their side.

I tried to open up to my friends,
But they reminded me that I was alone.

I tried to read just to take my mind off,
But they became the words of the books.

I tried so much to win,
But they got stronger every single time.

My demons have won,
My demons survived.
