My whole existence was in the shadows
Pay no attention to the girl behind the curtain
Pulling the best version to and fro
Act perfect
Look perfect
Be perfect
The strings grow ragged
Until they are cut completely
For the first time in my life I'm peering from behind the curtain
And letting the golden rays of sunrise caress my tear soaked face
And feeling the ground move beneath my feet
Faster and faster
I was once asked what I was running from
I'm not running from anything
Not anymore
Instead I'm running towards something
Something too amazing for me to comprehend
All I know is that I need it
Whatever it is
The beauty of the hope on the horizon
Within reach Steals the breath from my lungs
But fills my heart with ecstasy
They try to slow me down
When they should've learned their lesson a long time ago
Demons can't survive in the light
Especially not in the piercing luminescence that dwells within me
I bid them adieu
For my journey is more carefree
Without them weighing me down
It's in my grasp
I can feel its warmth
Its welcoming
Freedom
