Includes mild violence and foul language.

Fish suck.

Literally all I can say. They really do. You guys think that Merfolk are all gorgeous, graceful creatures that sing with delight and, well, basically Ariel. You think they're mystic creatures with lush flowing hair as they swim in the water and blah, blah, blah all that bullshit.

Nope.

They reek. They ugly. They go from 0-100 in 0.3 seconds if you insult their tail fin color. They're all basically one, big, dramatic soap opera. There was obviously a reason why the little mermaid wanted to be on land instead. Fish suck.

Never did I know that the sea was as turbulent as the land. That is, before I came a part of it myself.

Now, what you're about to hear, NO ONE ELSE COULD HEAR! That means, keep your mouths zipped or I will make sure that you accidentally drown in a whirlpool while snorkeling.

Accidentally.

My name's Elijah Saunders, and I am a fish. You guys probably think "wow, he's a mermaid? That's so cool!"
NO IT IS NOT COOL! You think popping a tail whenever you touch water is cool? You think a bunch of random hot chicks trying to kick your ass is cool? I mean, it's kinda sexy but uh, it ain't Sista, and I'm a guy. This just lowers my already-low self-esteem below zero.

I suppose I will tell you how I became like this. You see, it all started on the day that people call the "best day ever" but it turned out to be "the shittiest day of my life".

The jittering school bell screamed in the halls as a wave of ecstatic students poured in from the classroom doors. The cheers and screams bounced around the walls of the school halls as pieces of schoolwork were thrown in the air, descending like snowflakes as they scattered across the tile floor.

School was finally over, and senior year, for me, had finally begun. I only have one more year to go. Lemme just say...

Thank. God.

I was practically swimming in the tide of bustling kids bursting their way through the cloudy doors of Monterey High. I rushed to the side of the crowd just until my sleeve was pulled back in.

"ITS FUCKING OVER!" Eira screamed as she hopped energetically, her hand still clutched to my sweater.

A chuckle escaped from my lips as I joined into my friend's celebration. "How does it feel to finally be free from the place?"

She shrugged and squinted as the sun kissed her face. "I dunno," she said, shading her warm eyes by raising her hand above her eyebrows, "it literally feels so surreal."

She ran her tanned fingers through her soft, caramel hair before turning to me. "You're coming to my graduation, right?"

I nodded confidently. "I already got the tickets."

I lied. I didn't get the tickets. They sold out before I can get them. I'm going to die.

Eira beamed with delight. "Good."

As she said that, her friends came at us like a swarm of bees and completely encased us in their circle.

"IM GONNA MISS YOU!" one sobbed as they tightly held Eira close them, having her softly chuckle.

"You have to visit us", a red-head wailed, "this place will be a shithole without you."

"Jesus, y'all, calm down", Eira giggled, "I'm still gonna be here in the summer. It's not like I'm gone here forever.

"Instead of 'mourning' before I even graduate, let's go eat something."

"Ooooo," a blonde, short girl cooed, "can we eat at Seaside Diner? I haven't been there in forever!"

"That sounds like a good idea!" Eira exclaimed, freeing herself from tight embraces. She turned her head to me. "Wanna come, Eli?"

Her friends turned to me like they happened to forget I was there the whole time. I shrugged. "I'm down."

"Let's go then!"

I know it's a short chapter but I wanted to get this out there for you guys quicker. I might continue to post small chapters often but I will include super long ones too. Anyways, thanks for taking your time to read this!
