So most of you know that I'm really not that great at drawing hands.
And while every once in a while I can manage decent looking ones they are still a gigantic struggle to get them looking alright.
Finally I was done with making crappy hands and I told myself I was going to improve them.
So I took out my mini sketchbook, found some google references and started drawing some hands. Here was the first batch.
I labeled each hand I made on a scale of Ew to Eh to Ok just to give myself a reference on how good I thought it turned out.
My favorite out of this batch was the hand pointing with the index finger and the thumb at the bottom labeled "ok."Here's the second batch.
There are a couple more Ehs, but there are no Ews and there is a tiny bit of improvement.
My favorite out of this batch was the Spooder Man hand with the black finger nails at the bottom labeled "ok."Here is the third batch.
At this point there is a lot more improvement in the anatomy and I'm starting to add a bit more detail to the finger nails as well.
There is only one Eh and no Ews.
My favorite of this batch is the one in the middle bottom with the downwards palm labeled "ok."Here is the final batch.
As you can see there are no Ews or Ehs and there is a good amount of detail in every single hand.
And to be honest I can't decide which one is my favorite of this batch because there are a lot of good things going on in each one.
And in the one hand labeled "ok-ish" the only thing I would change to make it an ok is I would make the thumb a bit thinner. So after finishing the fourth batch I went back to the first one and relabeled each one of the hands to see how differently I would have them labeled.
And as you can see there is a drastic difference for such a large majority that even I'M kinda shocked.
My favorite of the first batch has not changed though. So this chapter just goes to show that there are ways to help you improve and that if you just work at something long and hard enough you are going to get better and you will see good drastic changes in your art or anything you do for that matter.
Just keep going and don't give up.
And then eventually you'll get where you want to be and all that hard work would have been worth it.
That's it for now.
