Shadow sighed as he took out his keys to unlock his apartment. The walls were so thin, he could punch them and his fist would probably be in someone else's apartment to wave at them. It was small; the biggest room was probably the bathroom, and he didn't have a living room, it serves as his bedroom, with a small twin sized bed. He hadn't even been able to find enough money to afford an oven or coffee maker.

The one good thing about his apartment, was his new neighbor was unbelievably cute. He had waved and introduced himself to his neighbors, so he could keep an eye on the ones he found shady. He had so little and didn't want any of it to go missing because his neighbors were little shits.

They were all pretty dismissive, but one of them had greeted him eagerly and welcomed him inside. And Shadow has gotten a crush on the boy he sometimes saw, always in a red hoodie.

The door swung open, but made a goddesses awful noise. Shadow groaned; the entire state didn't need to know he couldn't afford oil so his front door didn't sound like that. His family was a six hour drive away, he didn't have many friends, he was just in his own.

But he could live with a loud, squeaky door. But he wasn't entire sure if he could live without a cup of coffee.

Three weeks he had spent in that damned apartment, four weeks he had spent at his dead end, minimum wage job that had him working the night shift. And he had barely anything to show for it, but goddesses, did he need some Starbucks.

But again, he didn't have the money. He sighed, deciding a cold shower would have to do to wake him up. He was still looking for another job, since this one couldn't give him enough money. He had literally been eating a package of Top Ramen and a banana every day, he barely had any energy anymore, but if he didn't have energy, he couldnt work, and if he couldn't work, he'd lose his job, and if he lost his job, he'd have no money, meaning no food, meaning even less energy and then he'd be starving and homeless and then winter would roll in and he'd die.

Shadow struggled with the door to his bathroom for a minute. The door knob had a tendency to stop working and he couldn't get it to budge right now. After several minutes, it finally opened because he broke the doorknob.

"I fucking give up," he mumbled turning on the water.

It managed to wake him up, but the thing that make him totally, completely awake was not the water.

He could very clearly hear Red's voice through the walls, ringing loud and again very clear. Shadow reached over to the shower head and turned it off for a moment, listening before blushing.

From the sounds of it, Red was singing in the shower.

He turned it back on and continued to listen to Red sing Youth.

"...Our minds are troubled by the emptiness..."

Before he could control himself, Shadow started singing along. "Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time."

"From the perfect start..."

"...to the finish line."

"And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones..."

"...cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs."

"...we're setting fire to our insides for fun..."

"...collecting names of the lovers that went wrong..."

Shadow could hear him laughing now, and the sound made him smile as he turned the water off and got out.

An hour later, the blonde stood in front of his door, grinning ear from ear with damp hair plastered to his forehead.

Shadow blushed and invited him inside, because that seemed the polite thing to do for his super cute neighbor, he needed to make a good impression.

"You have such a nice voice!" He chirped. Shadow felt like he could get lost in his eyes, pure and clean and so. Damn. Cute.

"Thanks, as do you. I was in drama a lot during high school, and a friend made me join choir with her," now he felt like he was rambling.

Red giggled and looked around the small apartment. He could pretty much see everything from where he sat on the wooden chair across from Shadow's wooden chair. The fact that there was a twin sized bed with black covers in the corner was just embarrassing at the moment, and he felt himself flush when Red's large azure eyes looked over at it.

"I plan on investing on some curtains or something for my bed, so it feels less like I'm bringing someone into my bedroom," Shadow explained quickly.

Red nodded. "We've all been there...well, I mean...in truth, I haven't and none of my friends have, but there's no shame in being there!" He giggled nervously. "Eventually you might be able to afford a bigger apartment, or you know....meals. If you ever need anything, I am door."

Shadow smirked. It would be nice to bring him into my bedroom. Even though technically, he is already inside my bedroom. "Of course, you shall come to mind the next time I need a cup of sugar or someone to petsit."

He opened his mouth to respond, then frowned and blinked. "You have a pet?"

Shadow tried to keep his expression serious. "Ah, yes, my pet. Meet Sally." He reached into his pocket and brought out a stone. "My pet rock."

Red laughed, the joyous name being a smile to Shadow's face. "Yeah, well, if you ever need anything else, like...actual food, or a place to sleep—that bed looks like it's going to break any second now—, or a ride somewhere."

Shadow opened his mouth and heard the wood of the bed frame snap. There was a heartbeat of silence. "Those first two sound nice."

Red's eyes lit up and he very obviously started blushing. "Great! I'd be more than willing to give you my guest room, and there's this new restaurant I've been wanting to try, I'll pay for everything."

"You make it sound like a date."

"Hehehehe, a date? No way. Because we're both guys, and probably only one of us is really gay and really into the other, that would be stupid."

"HOW DID YOU KNOW?!"

Red blinked. "I was referring to myself...but I probably should have guessed, you have a flag right behind you."

Shadow turned around in his chair and looked at the rainbow flag. "Yes." He turned back around.

There was more silence.

"So, you up for that...d-d-d-date?"

Shadow grinned. "Unless you want to skip to the part where I press you against a wall and make out with you for being so cute."

Red grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the apartment.

That doorknob broke too.
