[Forewarning: Swearing Imminent]
[Edited: ✔️]~•~
Lex sat on her bed, glaring holes into the wall of her bedroom, her thoughts swirling in her brain like a storm. It had already been a couple of days since that dinner, and she was still not having any of it. Her thoughts wandered back to the dinner. The caster boy, whose name was Andrew Lachlan, was the grandson of a famous caster, and the son of a renowned author. Needless to say that he was well off. But she didn't care. She didn't care that he had money, nor did she care for his devilishly good looks, either. Well, she might have cared a little, but his personality made all of his good looks, unlikeable. She was evidently mad at her parents, and made it known.
Avoiding them like the plague whenever they were near and not talking to both of them. There was a knock on her bedroom door that brought her out of her thoughts. Lex didn't bother answering, because she already knew it was either one of her parents. Most likely her mother. Vera opened the door softly, peeking her head in. "Honey," She said softly, "Can we talk?" She asked before continuing, not waiting for Lex's answer. "Aren't you even gonna give him a chance?" Vera asked.
No answer. As expected.
"Lex, Honey, your father and I are doing this for your own good." Lex's left eye twitched once. Her back was to her mother as she continued to glare at the wall. She wasn't having any of it, and she was still ignoring her parents. "C'mon, Honey. You know we're doing this for you, you can't expect us to just watch our daughter grow old alone. In the 17 years of life that you've lived, you have never once brought a boy home, so, we just thought you had trouble finding people." She forgot that she was the one who told her not to have feelings for normal boys.
Lex closed her eyes, sucking in a deep breath before releasing, back still faced towards her mother. She didn't want to speak. She didn't like the whole subject of love, anyway. She was the type of person who'd rather watch a horror thriller than some romance movie where all the people in it fell in love, get married, grow old and die.
After a few minutes of her unforgiving silence to anything her mother was saying, Vera finally sighed and left, closing the door quietly. Lex let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in. She got up off the bed and closed the blinds of her windows and went over to her study table, snapping her fingers three times to reveal the concealed grimoire, channelling talisman and pendants. She sat down on the chair and started reading the grimoire. Revising all she had learned throughout the years with her two best friends: Martha and Loraine. But, while she tried to focus on the informational facts and notes in the book, her thoughts kept wandering to her being married to some rich caster family, playing housewife and raising successors. The thought made her cringe.
She was not about to let a snob control her life any time soon.
It was Monday morning and Lex got up bright and early for school. Early enough to avoid her parents who would be having breakfast when they woke up. She made her way to school and headed straight for the library, not surprised that it was opened, since the library was basically another building, treated as a public library in her neighbourhood. She went inside the library, saying a quick 'good morning' to the librarian on duty at the front desk, and went straight to the educational books section. She spent half an hour in the library trying to clear her mind, it worked for a while.
The first bell of the morning rang, signalling that school was starting. Packing up her things and putting away the books in their places, she left the library and went to her locker in the school building, taking out a few things and putting away a few things. Chatter soon filled the school hallways as time passed before the bell rang again, and everyone went to their first period classes. She sat through the whole hour of English, thinking about the situation at home. There was a way out of this, she could bring home a boy, but it can't be a human, though... Can it? She just has to find someone who can capture her parents' attention and answer a few questions. And then, when they are done doting on him, the two of them would be off on their own ways, never to meet again. But, the question is, who?
Her second class passed by in a blink of an eye and now it was time for recess. Lex met up with Martha and Loraine at their usual table, talking about random topics, changing the subject every few minutes. Then, unexpectedly, they landed on the subject of last Friday's dinner. "So, Lexie, what did your parents want with that boy?" Martha asked, a curious, childish, expression on her face as she look at the moping girl.
"They wanted me to make him my..." She feigned choking before continuing, "boyfriend." The two laughed at her before noticing her sour expression. "It's not funny. They think I'm incapable of getting a boyfriend by myself, so they figured they'd take it upon themselves to hook me up to some rich entitled bigot who, I don't even know, mind you." She muttered bitterly, eyes narrowing at the plate of food in front of her.
"Aww, it's okay Lex." Loraine said, rubbing her back soothingly in support. "We know it's hard on you, but maybe you should put yourself out more?" She suggested, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "I know your parents said no humans, but, what else can you do when every boy around you is human, am I right?" Lex looked at Loraine and nodded slowly with a small pout on her face.
"And I know exactly where and how to start!" Martha chirped, smiling widely while clapping her hands. The look on her face made Lex's stomach tie knots.
The rest of the day of school went by in a flash, almost too fast, really. She'd hoped she'd be able to stay a bit longer so she'd be able to avoid the subject with her parents, but it was inevitable. The three of them reached the Holloways' house and made their way up, fortunately not running into her mother as they went into Lex's room. "C'mon, let's practice." Martha said seriously, a small smile on her lips.
After revising and practicing the spells Martha had taught them three days ago, it was time for the to test their spell casting stability. Unfortunately, Lex was finding it harder and harder to focus throughout the whole session. Especially when it came to the meditating parts. Loraine noticed Lex finding it hard to focus and asked her what was wrong. "It's nothing." Lex said, laughing a fake laugh to put her friend at ease. "Just scared I might fail my biology quiz." She said before continuing with the meditations.
The practice sessions continued, but Lex's thoughts were elsewhere. Andrew Lachlan.
He was an admirable person. Meaning, you could admire his looks and his money, but that's about it. There was nothing great about him. He was stuck up, overconfident, rude, vain and a braggart. All of the qualities she tried to avoid whenever she looked at the male species. He was the literal stereotype of any rich white boy in this country. Essentially, she learned that he was a quarterback at his high school, lived a few miles away, at the mountain residences — rich bastard — and has his own car. A Porsche, no less. How stereotypical could this boy be? Very.
Soon, it was half passed nine and Martha and Loraine had already left a couple hours ago. Right now, Lex was laying in her bed, staring at the ceiling, her thoughts traveling and recalling the events of last Friday.
She imagined herself being married to that prick, playing housewife and bowing to his every whim. Raising witch and caster successors in their four-story mansion, out in the mountains somewhere. She'd only see him once every three days when he'd return from his 'business trips'. Then, they'd get a divorce after a few years of the same shit every week, the kids would obviously want to go with their father, and she'd be left alone. All by herself. In her small house. Not the ideal future she would want for herself, nor for the children she would one day bear.
After realising what she'd thought of, a gasp left her lips before turning to the clock on her bedside table. 23:17 p.m. Shit. She'd been too lost in her own mind that she lost two whole hours of her night in a flash. The resentment she had in her body washed over her, making her groan and turn in her bed, laying face down.
"Fuck..."
