Splash! Ice cold water was dumped on my face. My eyes flew opened and I spit out water. I sat up gasping for air and stared at Christy who held a bucket. Before I could get mad, the flashback to when I first got home flashed before my eyes. I saw Jasper dumping water on me and him running away and me running after him. I shook that thought aside and shook my head causing the water droplets to get Christy wet. She laughed and I jumped out if bed and chased her out of the room and down the hallway. We went to the kitchen and I spun her around. She was leaning up against the counter. Her eyes showed excitement. We froze when a light came on. My head turned to the side and I saw Jason in shorts and a tee shirt gawking at us.

"Did you guys kiss?" He asked

I looked at Christy and my face grew hot. Did it look like we did? I turned and looked back at Jason.

"Um no. Look why don't you go back to your room and play. Adam and I are going out for a while," Christy said.

Jason frowned and ran back down the hallway. I moved away from Christy and rubbed the back of my neck. My face was burning with embarrassment. I tried apologizing to Christy but ended up stumbling over my own words. Then I saw a clock. It blinked 2:20pm. What happened to leaving early?! My brain screamed at me. I looked at Christy who was filling up two water bottles. I cleared my throat and pointed to the clock. She looked at it and blushed. She told me that she tried to wake me up around six but I didn't wake up so she decided to let me sleep. I surprised myself by walking over to her and I kissed her cheek. Then my eyes grew wide as I knew what I did.

"I....uh....I didn't-"

"Adam? It's okay. Don't be embarrassed," Christy told me.

Clearly she just quoted me from what I told her yesterday. I smiled and laughed nervously. Then she tossed me a water bottle. She led me towards the front door. She yelled down the hallway telling her mom that we're leaving. I heard her mom shout back then we went out. The sun was hidden behind storm clouds as we walked across the yard. When we reached the edge of the yard I made eye contact with Christy.

"Catch me if you can," I said.

Next thing I knew, I was running down the road leaving Christy behind. Adrenaline ran through me. I reached the edge of the paved road and stumbled onto the dirt one. I glanced behind me and saw Christy race ahead of me. I shook my head and yelled at her. Then I laughed. This is so much fun! I thought as my feet pounded against the dirt. I ran for a few miles and regretted my thought: 'this is so much fun!' So you know the saying 'eat my dust' well I'm literally eating Christy's dust. Bits and pieces flew in my mouth and in my eyes causing me to trip and fall. I yelled loudly and my water bottle went flying through the air. I tucked and rolled and landed back on my feet in an instant. I looked up and saw my water bottle. I ran ahead, jumped and caught it. I laughed at myself. That. Was. So. Freaking. Awesome! I wish someone could've seen it. I saw the path ahead of me and I turned a sharp left. I didn't slow do but I went faster. I jumped over logs, branches, and I ducked under spiderwebs and other things. Up ahead was a different fallen tree and it was a foot above the ground and it was to tall to jump over. I exhaled sharply as I chucked my water bottle over it. I bent one leg and put my right hand behind me. I landed on the ground and slid under the tree. Once I was on the other side, I pushed up from the ground and got back to my feet. Woohoo! I then caught my water bottle and saw Christy ahead of me. Above me, there were owls flying away from the city. Why are they flying away? I wondered as I kept running. I slowed down to a walking pace when I reached Christy and started telling her what I did. When I stopped, I noticed that she was staring ahead with tears rolling down her face. My brow furrowed in concern.

"Christy? What's the matter?" I asked

"Look," she whispered.

Christy pointed ahead of her. I turned and looked ahead of me. My eyes grew wide at what I saw. The shack was destroyed.
