Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
My eyes opened and I stared at my phone. At first I was confused at why I set my alarm this early. Then I remembered. I'm supposed to meet Christy at eight o'clock sharp in the woods. I wonder what's happened. The alarm kept going off and I turned it off and sat up in bed. Groggily, I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and I rolled one leg out of bed followed by the other. I stretched and got to my feet. My feet shuffled over to the light switch. I flipped it and was temporally blinded by the light. After I blinked a few times, I could see and threw on jeans, a red tee shirt, and tennis shoes. I ran a brush through my hair and shouldered my backpack. I also put my phone in my pocket. Then I bolted out my bedroom door and ran down the stairs two at a time. I went to the kitchen, grabbed a pop-tart, and ran out. I didn't care if I'm two hours early to the woods, we need to find Jasper. I quietly went out the front door and ran across the grass and reached the dirt road. Then, after I finished my pop-tart, I took off running down the road.
As I ran, I thought about Christy. I hope she isn't mad at me. Mom was right. I don't stay a child forever. I sighed and prayed that nothing else happened to the city. I found the path and tore down it. I got smacked in the face by branches and my legs got scratched up but I didn't care. I yelled Christy's name and heard her respond. I smiled and ran faster. When I reached her, I was out of breath and panting. I got my breath back and looked at her.
"What's the matter? My mom said yesterday that it was urgent," I said.
Christy nodded her head. "Yes it is. The necklace is missing and I know where Jasper is. He's Rochester. It's forty-seven minuets away, give or take the traffic conditions."
My eyes grew wide. The necklace is missing?! Then I grabbed her hand and we ran down the path, turned left at the dirt road and reached my house. We went inside and I grabbed the keys to the car. I told mom and dad I'll be going to Rochester and then we went out and we got into my black Mustang. I asked Christy what store or something in Rochester that Jasper will be in. She replied and told me that he's somewhere around town. I rolled my eyes and started the car. I pulled out of the driveway and headed down the dirt road. I reached the main road and got onto the highway towards Rochester. While I drove, Christy and I talked and I apologized for the way I acted. She said I was forgiven.
Forty-seven minuets later we were cruising around town of Rochester looking for Jasper. We searched for a good twenty minuets in the car then we found him walking down the sidewalk. I put my fore-ways on, parked the car, and Christy and I jumped out and ran after Jasper. He saw us and ran away. Adrenaline and anger ran through me, I ran faster and eventually I reached him and grabbed Jasper. We both fell on the sidewalk. I flipped him over on his back and held my fist above his face. Rage filled me. I was about to punch him when Christy came and shoved me off of him. She and I grabbed his arms and yanked him to his feet. Christy glared at him and asked
"Jasper you destroyed out shack and took the necklace. Why?"
"What necklace?! And I didn't destroy your stupid shack! Why would I?" He replied
I looked him in the eye. I believed him. I told Christy that and she said she didn't believe him. I sighed and apologized to Jasper as we dragged him back to the car and shoved him in. I drove towards the highway and headed back home. It took three hours to get back to Owatonna because of traffic. I parked the car in my driveway, returned the keys, and took Jasper to the city. We walked down the dirt road, found the path, and reached the city. Christy and I screamed at what we saw.
In front of us were construction vehicles and people. What....what's going on?! I looked around for a sign but didn't see any. I wanted to punch someone. I glared at Jasper then apologized as I punched him. Once I was finished, I scanned the area for a boss of the construction people. I found one. I stormed over to him. He wore jeans, a blue shirt, a vest, and a hard hat. He looked at me and put a hard hat on my head. I took it and chucked it into the woods. I glared at him.
"You okay mister?" He asked
"No! I'm not okay! You destroyed our city!" I yelled through gritted teeth. My hands were clenched into fists at my sides
The guy laughed and looked at me like I was crazy. "There's no city here, son. You might be a little on the crazy side but we're planning to build a gas station here."
Now Christy was at my side, Jasper apparently left. She had a angry expression on her face as well. The guy rolled his eyes and called someone over. He ordered the man to escort us off the property. He did and we both screamed and said nasty things. That didn't help. We were dragged through the woods and when we reached the dirt road, the guy threw us down and told us to stay out. I shot to my feet.
"YOU CAN'T KEEP US OUT FORVER! WE'LL BE BACK! WE'LL HAUNT YOU IN YOUR NIGHTMARES!" I shouted angrily.
I know it didn't make any sense but I was furious. I screamed, picked up a rock, and chucked it in the direction of the people. Then Christy and I went our separate ways.
A month later
I paced back and forth in my bedroom at ten at night. Rain poured down and it was to dangerous to go out with all if the lighting and thunder. Even our phone line and power is out. I put on a battery powered lamp and laid in bed. I sighed as I thought about Christy. I haven't seen or talked to her since last month when that jerk threw us out of the construction area, previously known as the city. I also thought about Steven. I haven't seen him in a while either. A sigh escaped my mouth as I pulled the covers near me. I turned the lamp off and closed my eyes. Maybe tomorrow, if it isn't raining, Christy and I would go to the gas station, I thought as I drifted off to sleep.
