(Y/n)'s POV
Ding! Ding! The bell's constant ringing resounded throughout the hallways of the school. Without intending to, a sigh of relief escaped my lips as the girls whom I had identified as bullies cursed before heading off to their classes.
I picked up my scattered books and worn-out backpack, which looked as ancient as the Earth itself. Of course, that was just an exaggeration on my part.
Once the bruises on my arms became uncovered, I trembled involuntarily and quickly looked away. I wished that they would disappear but I couldn't wish for the impossible.
The 'bullies' never let them heal. But the most unfortunate thing was that...I didn't have the courage to speak up for myself. Unintentionally, I had let them 'torture' me everyday.
Oh no, it was starting again. My arms faded slightly, turning somewhat translucent. I quickly pulled down my sleeves and grabbed my bag.
As I hurriedly rushed off to class, the invisibility rushed up to my neck. Luckily the scarf just barely managed to hide it. It was terribly embarrassing when I was invisible, leaving only my clothes.
"(Y/n) (L/n), you're late again," exclaimed Mr Kai.
"S-sorry sir."
"*sigh* Just go and take a seat."I nodded and walked to my seat at the back, avoiding the gazes of everyone in my class. Why did this always happen to me? I was just a little late to class, what was the big deal? Seemed as if I was some sort of alien with all their constant staring.
Mr Kai started the class about the history behind the Seraphim and the Shepherd. I usually quite enjoyed his lessons. In fact, I was one of the very few students in this class that did.
This school was a special one. Humans that could see the Seraphim and/or had the potential to become a Shepherd, which was extremely rare, attended Elysia High. Of course, this school was open to all the Seraphim as well.
Unexpectedly, Mr Kai asked me to answer question 15 on page 67. It was a reasonably simple one but the explanation was a little more complicated.
"Good job, (Y/n). I can always count on you to give me decent answers," he said with a grin.
I just gave him a slight nod before looking down again. Mr Kai was one of my favourite teachers. The main reason was because he wasn't an idiotic jerk that liked to pick on students.
And plus, he was one of the very few people that knew about my 'condition'. But just because I trusted him enough to tell him about it didn't mean he was a close friend.
It was a sad but truthful fact. I had no friends nor family. I was an abandoned child, denied by society and labelled as an outcast.
~Some time later~
Ugh, I hated this class and it wasn't just because it was boring. Maths was an easy subject for me but what made it simply intolerable was the fact that they were here.
"(Y/n), what's the answer to the first question?" Shiori asked, shoving her notebook onto my desk.
I reluctantly took her pen and wrote down the answers to the 15 questions we had to answer. She faked a smile before going on her phone, ignoring the teacher's warnings.
Of course she could do something like that. Her parents were rich, and the school didn't want to upset them. The teacher couldn't do anything that would upset her for fear of getting fired.
A note was passed onto my desk from the side. A boy who's name I had forgotten had been asked to give it to me. It didn't seem like he wanted anything to do with this.
Give me your book. I want to see the answers. You know what happens if you don't. ~ Catherine
I glanced back at her. She simply smirked before gesturing for me to go over. But I had a feeling that we weren't allowed to get out of our seats. Our maths teacher was strict.
Catherine mouthed the words, 'hurry up', already starting to lose her patience. It had barely even been a minute.
I hesitantly stood up from my seat, quietly grabbed my book and went to her desk. As I did, the teacher's booming voice filled the classroom.
"(Y/n), I thought I told you not to talk to anyone when you are doing your work," she exclaimed angrily.
"S-sorry ma'am. I just wanted to-"
"No excuses. Sit down...now."
"...yes ma'am."While we were talking, Catherine had secretly switched our books so that now I had hers, which was filled with several doodles and drawings.
If we had to hand these in, I would most likely get an after school detention. *sigh* Why did I even live like this? Catherine even changed the names on our notebooks.
As I hurriedly tried to finish off the questions, the teacher came around to collect our books. She yanked the book from underneath my arms, showing no kindness or patience while doing so.
I had only gotten up to the fifth question, nowhere near good enough for my standards. The bell rung, indicating the start of morning tea. Usually, all the students bought food at the cafeteria but I didn't like to go there.
Shiori and her friends were always there. It scared me. Despite the hatred I felt towards them, I couldn't do anything.
Unsurprisingly, I was the last one to leave the classroom. I didn't care if I was left alone...all I wanted was a real friend but that was impossible. That was why loneliness was better than the rest of society.
I headed to my usual spot: the rooftop. No one bothered me here, no one ever came up here. I didn't know why but I was grateful that I had a place all to myself.
