Her lips were a pale pink color, almost blending in with her porcelain skin. The hair on her head was a natural white with hints of blonde throughout the strands. A small, light freckle was placed strategically on her cheekbone, closer to her ear. The feature that struck me the most, however, were her eyes. They were a bright yet stormy shade of blue that immediately drew you in when you looked at her. I had never seen anything like her before, and I've seen a lot.
"Is your mission clear, twenty-two?"
The Suzerain's voice cut through my thoughts, "Yes, sir."
"Repeat it back to me."
"I will befriend Emmalise Ellis and teach her of her abilities before then leading her to the portal so it can be opened and you can enter and claim Earth."
"Excellent, proceed on route immediately and be sure to update me everyday on your progress."
"Yes, sir," I say, bowing slightly. Turning sharply, I walk out of the door and continue on to the elevator. Once inside, I begin travelling down towards the prison. The doors open and I go to the prisoner's cell and open the door with my hand print.
"No!"
"Prisoner 1, we have located your replacement. Please hand over the necklace," I say calmly.
"No! This is impossible, there is no way another one has been born in such a short amount of time!"
"You're wrong, we have expertly located her using the locator that is programmed with a piece of the necklace. She has been found and she is the new Minder. Hand over the necklace, I will not tell you again."
"You will have to rip it from my neck."
"Suit yourself." I pull out my gun from its holster and shoot her in the chest before she has the chance to blink. A guard came in from the outside of the hall.
"Should I get the necklace?" He asks.
"No."
I walk towards the prisoner's body and untie the necklace. Before I can turn away the prisoner grabs onto my arm. I signal for the guard to stop approaching as the prisoner beckons me forward. I lean my ear down close to her mouth.
"You can't let him have her," the prisoner whispers before exhaling for the last time. I stand up and then reach to close her eyelids.
"Take her to the deconstructing room after The Suzerain sees her," I say to the guard as I tie the necklace around my neck.
"Safe travels, twenty-two," he says.
I nod in response before letting that slimy feeling coat my skin and seep into my bones. All at once my breath was sucked out of my body and I couldn't breathe. I try to relax into the searing pain in my lungs.
My eyes open suddenly and I suck in a breath.
Earth.
