Sapphire's POV

"I could just run away if I wanted to", I thought to myself. But no. If I know what's best for me, running away won't do anything.

I've tried it so many times before just to fail and be punished even worse.

And I've even gone to the police so many times but she's manipulative.

"My daughter... self harms herself. And I try so hard to stop her, but- I..." she starts choking up. "I try to help her! But she doesn't let me. She has bad influence of friends and has gone... I hate to say it... crazy. She thinks I hit her and it breaks my heart because I'm her mother and I love her with all my heart!"

They stare at her apologetic and then turn to face me.

"Is this true?"

I look down to my mothers hand which curled into a fist.

"Yes." I mumbled.

And I've never told anyone about it. Not even Jay or Kate. The last thing I want is for anyone to become involved.

And now that Logan is here, and is my neighbor, I'm scared.

I opened the door to the grocery store and looked at the list in my hands.

Chips
Ice cream
Rat poison

I looked at the list confused. Rat poison?

I shrugged and grabbed the chips and a tub of ice cream.

I don't know where rat poison could be here.

I walked through the aisles, scanning the shelves.

I ran into someone and the woman gasped.

"I'm so sorry, ma'am!" I said picking up her bag of mixed berries off the ground.

She took the bag from me with shaky hands and wouldn't stop staring at my face.

She was a small, pretty woman that was possibly around 30 or 40. She had long dark brown hair that draped over her face and bright blue eyes that swirled with great emotion and pale skin. She had a few wrinkles around her eyes, but still looked young.

"Yo- you." She quivered.

"Are you okay?" I said

She ignored my question and continued staring into my eyes. "Bright eyes. Blue eyes. Almost the colors of sapphires. Shiny and blue. Could it be?" Her hand reached up to my hair

I am so confused. I back away slowly and give her a kind smile. "I think you're mistaken ma'am." I said before walking away.

I went into the next aisle. I paused in my tracks when I see a familiar person and turn around on my heel, hoping the person didn't see me.

"Sapphire?"

I shut my eyes. Please let this not be real.

I heard him walk closer to me and I turned around. I faked a smile.

"Hey, Logan. I wish I could stay and speak longer, but I'm in a rush." I said remembering my mom gave me a time limit.
