Composed of some of the most powerful voodoo practitioners in Louisiana's history, the Laroux clan was the first black family to possess holdings in New Orleans. They were spearheaded by Arelia Broussard, a famous voodoo queen speculated to have been distantly related to other voodoo queen, Marie Laveau. After her untimely death in 1876, they lost all holdings over the seven wards they presided over to the Chastain coven. The Laroux clan faded into obscurity after that point, but the descendants of Arelia Broussard remained in New Orleans for many years, becoming revolutionaries against racism, and some of the first ever members of the Black Panther party.

Statistically, the Chastain coven are the most powerful witches in New Orleans. The Chastain coven possesses the symbolic seat of power in New Orleans, which is the Vieux Carré, or the French Quarter. Their power includes that of the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and seventeenth wards of New Orleans. Their ancestry stems from Salem, where the coven fled during the witch trials in 1692. The originators of the Chastain clan are estimated to be from the ancient Roman Empire in 350 A.C., where they fled to France to escape persecution from the early Christians.

The De Los Santos clan are the first ever Latino practitioners to ever hold control over a ward in New Orleans. They practice Santería, making them the only family in New Orleans history to do so. This family has prided itself on housing some of the most powerful Santería practitioners in all the world; having ancestral connections to Oaxaca, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. They preside over the thirteenth, fourteenth, sixteenth wards of New Orleans.

The Sørensens are the second coven to possess power in New Orleans. After forming a secret alliance with the Chastain coven in 1964, the Sørensen coven ascended in the magical hierarchy, and currently are second to the Chastain coven in terms of power. Currently, with assistance from the then High Priestess of the Chastain coven, the Sørensen coven has control over the second, third, and fifteenth wards of New Orleans. The progenitors of the Sørensen clan used their abilities to enable the seafarers to conquer Northern Europe during the Middle Ages.

The first voodoo practitioners to come into power after the Laroux clan were the Moise clan. Statistically, they are the weakest, coming into power during the early 1970's. The clan presides over the eighth and ninth wards of New Orleans. Unbeknownst to any of the other clans, the Moise clan maintained contact with the Laroux descendants, patiently awaiting for the Laroux's to return to power, and to reinstate voodoo as the most powerful practice in New Orleans.

Similar to the De Los Santos clan, the Higa family are the first ever Shinto practitioners to ever have holdings in New Orleans. Immigrating from Japan in the late 1940's, the Higa family rose to power in New Orleans, but due to the persecution Asian-Americans faced during World War II and the Vietnam War, they didn't gain possession of a ward in New Orleans until the early 1980's. Today, the Higa clan possesses three wards- the first, tenth, and eleventh.
