a/n- another self indulgent nokarsha short thing because I can.

Noelle's POV

It was mid-autumn- leaves swayed back and forth in the soft breeze, orange, yellow, and warm red falling gently from the trees. I shivered a little bit. The air was pleasant, but nonetheless chilly. Min and Diya had gone off to buy some sandwiches for our Saturday impromptu picnic lunch- leaving Akarsha and I to sit in silence on the gingham picnic blanket.

I glanced at my watch- it's been twenty minutes since they've left. Probably went off to make out, I thought with a scowl.

"Hey, if I was a space thing, what would I be, Frenchman?" Akarsha's voice startled me, snapping me out of my trance.

"A what?" Ignoring that nickname.

"A space thing." I rolled my eyes, and I caught the tanned girl smirking in my peripheral vision.

"You mean a celestial body?"

"A space thing." I ignored her, thinking for a moment.

"You are the sun." She widened her eyes in surprise, mouth slightly agape.

"The sun? Really? I was pretty sure that you would call me a black hole or space dust or something." She stared right through me, looking into my eyes briefly. A light rose colored blush dusted across my pale cheekbones.

"Y-yes, the sun," I stammered. She stared at me, her dark eyes practically begging for an explanation. I sighed, regaining my composure. "I never look at you unless out of frustration."

Her face fell. I continued.

"Whenever you're more... intense, I think you're annoying and avoid you. Nonetheless, you are the sun... I bask in your warmth, and complain when you're gone. On days when you barely shine, I complain. I only look at you when you're coming or leaving because you make me the happiest then- and I then, always, always, regret not looking at you more."

I abruptly shut my mouth. I've said too much. Akarsha blushed bright red, but my face was twice as pigmented as hers in that moment.

Before either of us could say anything, Min yelled at us from a short distance, she and Diya carrying four bags of sandwiches and various drinks, along with a bag of chips and a few cookies. Diya was bright red. I can only assume what they did. "MISSED US!?"

"You took long enough," I scoffed, trying to pull off a straight face. Obviously, I physically could not.

"Did you get chocolate chip?" Akarsha looked up at Min.

"Nope. Macadamia and white chocolate."

"MIN, YOU'RE SO CRUEL!" She snatched her sandwich out of Diya's hands, unwrapping it. She munched on the lunch, pretending to be mad.

I glanced at her- maybe she doesn't feel that way about me. Most likely. She doesn't. My face fell for a second while Diya handed me my plastic lunch bag. I glanced at Akarsha.

She smiled softly in my direction- just for a second. Just seeing her smile seemed to lighten my mood in the slightest, and I went back to focusing on my lunch.

She is the sun.

a/n- Noelle can't pull off a straight face. I wonder why- *wink wonk*

I'M GOING BACK TO ANGRY TANGERINE PRESIDENT COUNTRY TOMORROW (more like the day after that, depending on how much time zones want to send me into a pit of jet lag and comas)
