a/n- diya and min are about 12-13 here, my awkward young gays :) just pretend min isn't in florida yet

does anyone feel those late all time low vibes? just me? okay

in other news- I've had some writer's block, so I've literally just written out "yep if I'm ever not going to be forever alone and I don't want to die this would be extremely romantic ideal date 11/10 would date again" okay? okay.

Diya's POV

I laid on my bed, wide awake. Not a sound could be heard in my room except for the gentle hum of the air conditioning. Whispers of moonlight illuminated the carpeted bedroom floor, and the thin blue curtains swayed softly. Wrapped up in my floral-pattern comforter like a butterfly in a cocoon, I flipped over to look at the time. I squinted at the alarm clock, the bright green LED's hurting my eyes. 12:36 a.m. My parents were already asleep, their soft snores emanating from the bedroom across the house. I should go to sleep... I need the rest...

I dug my face into my pillow, my medium length brown hair like a messy chestnut-colored halo around my head. I felt like I had drank five cups of coffee and ran a marathon, practically bubbling over with energy but physically and mentally done.

I heard a tap on my window. Probably a bird.

Another tap, except louder. Maybe it's a really strange bird.

A third tap, even stronger than the last two. It was like someone was throwing rocks at my window.

I got up sluggishly, pushing the curtain aside and yanking the window up, breathing in the California night air. I looked around. Nothing. I took a final glance across the street and saw a small, feminine figure with small pebbles in her hands sporting a wicked grin. Min? She pointed up, then dropped the pebbles and sprinted to somewhere. Does she want me to get on the roof?! Sure, we climb up there sometimes, but it's the middle of the night!

I made my way to the roof, climbing out my window, to the backyard, onto a trash bin, jumping onto our shed, and finally on the dark roof shingles.

Min was sitting on the roof with a grin, holding a lantern, patting a picnic blanket beside her. I could see two party sized bags of potato chips and a huge slushie, the roof dimly lit by the lantern. I smiled. Min.

"Happy birthday," she said with a soft blush on her cheeks. "Sorry for waking you up... but I wanted to give you a good birthday surprise, without your stupid parents ruining it."

"It's my birthday?" I murmured, still tired.

"Yeah," she said with an absentminded smile. "It is." She snapped out of her trance quickly. "I-I got your favorite chips! And a slushy! I know the blue flavor's your favorite!" She paused for a second. "I know it's not much, but-" My eyes widened to the size of stars.

"You got the blue flavor?!" A wide grin crept on my lips. "It's perfect!" I tackled her onto the picnic blanket hugging her tightly.

"I-I'm glad you like it. W-when you're happy, I'm happy," Min said, her face red but barely visible in the dim lantern light. I sat up, realizing I was straddling the Korean girl. She was still blushing, looking to the side, one arm brushing against my butterfly-patterned pajama bottoms.

"R-right." I stammered, getting off of her. She looked relieved and slightly disappointed at the same when I sat back down on the picnic blanket. I fidgeted with the hem of my purple nightshirt.

"You're so happy and I haven't even showed you my actual surprise yet!" She exclaimed after a few moments. "Ready?" I had no idea what she was talking about. This was already amazing!

"Yeah."

She flicked off the lantern.

"L-like I said before, it's not much, since we're Asian and we don't get allowance... I just... I know you've always wanted to stargaze with someone, and it just happens to be a clear night out tonight," Min stuttered out. I couldn't say anything- I was star struck. The stars were beautiful, and when my mouth wasn't agape in exhilaration, it was be the brightest smile ever seen on my face. The stars in my eyes were almost as bright as the ones in the night sky. I continued to stare up, occasionally grabbing a chip or taking a sip of our shared blue slushy.

"I'm so happy I could kiss you right now." My words were quiet- a soft whispered promise in the starry night. I cupped my hands over my mouth, my face heating up in an instant. I did not just say that. I quickly started stammering, my heart louder than ever. "Oh god, I'm sorry, you probably don't feel that way about me-"

I was silenced by her lips on mine.

It was exhilarating- after all, it was my first kiss. Her lips were soft, but slightly chapped- they tasted like the blue slushy and were slightly cold from the frozen beverage. She moved up her hands to cup my cheeks gently- treating me delicately, almost like I was the most beautiful thing she's ever seen and couldn't stand to see me have even a single scratch on my body. Her hands were warm as she traced her thumbs across my cheekbones.

I was in shock for a few seconds- my hands laid on the roof- then I slowly placed my hands on her back, eventually tracing them up her spine and tangling them into her short jet black hair. She smelled like vanilla body wash, and the slight metallic tang of blood.

We pulled away after a moment or two. I couldn't tell- my heart was beating fast, my breath shaky and my mind racing. Her hands were still on my cheeks, her dark eyes staring into mine. They looked warm, absolutely captivated with my own. She stroked my cheekbones one last time and pulled away, awkwardly scratching the nape of her neck.

"S-so... uh..." Min stared off into space, her face as red as a tomato, trying to avoid my gaze.

I pressed awkward butterfly kisses to her cheeks and neck, feather light on her pale skin.

"T-thank thank you," I murmured. "This is the best birthday I've ever had."

"Really?" Min grinned, flicking the lantern back on. A rosy colored blush danced on her cheekbones.

"Yeah."

It really was the best birthday I could ever have. Even if it wasn't much, I got birthday stars, birthday wishes, and... birthday kisses.
