In the paper the next day it said a motorcycle crashed into a building due to brake failure. Two people were on it but only one survived. The truth was that halfway down the road he realized his brakes were broken. There wasn't anything he could do and he didn't want to scare her so he didn't tell her. So instead he told her to tell him she loved him and to give him a hug so he heard her say it one last time and felt her warmth one last time. Then he had her wear his helmet so she would live even though it meant he would die.
