I walked down the hall when I heard the emergency alarm go off. "What the hell is going on here?" I shouted to Desiree over the loud alarm. "William went insane and just started to destroy everything!" she shouted back. "What happened to him?" I was so confused. "He was possessed by some demon!"
"I thought this place was protected from demons?!" I said.
"I guess not," she looked a little concerned "they said they were after you Rylee!" the alarm finally shut off and I just stood there confused. "Why would they be after me?" Seriously, what was so special about me? "I don't know but, they are putting this whole place on lock down, no one is allowed to leave." she stated. Maybe this had something to do with last night when those demons showed up at the party. "If they want me, why do you think they possessed William?" she shrugged then she must've gotten an idea. "Maybe the demons know you trust William so they took possesion of him to get to you." Why didn't I think of that? I slowly nodded "I need to find out what I have that they are after." we both ran to find Mylex in his office. "Mylex, we have a question to ask you." I said and Desiree and I walked and sat in front of his desk. "Ask away girls." he said and puts his feet that were resting on his desk on the ground. "I heard the demons are after me for some reason and I need to know why." I rushed. "Ah, well," he sat up in his chair and rested his elbows on the desk "you Rylee are actually the daughter of two very powerful shadow hunters." he finished. "Shadow hunters?" Desiree asked, I could tell she was just as confused as I was. "Only my dad is a shadowhunter." I said. "Or so you think, look Rylee, your last name is actually Arendale, Faith is just your middle name." He has to be kidding me, I've been searching so long for a guy who isn't even my real father? "Well if Travis and Miranda aren't her parents then who are?" Desiree asked. "She is the daughter of Clary and Jace Arendale." I think I've heard of them before but, they are apart of a different institution.
"Okay, what?" I asked, this is not computing with me very well. "Let me explain, so basically, Clary and Jace are your birth parents, they sent you to the human world when you were an infant to keep you safe and you got adopted by Travis and Miranda Liteworth. Travis was a close compainion to Clary's mother so she knew she could trust him with you. They made sure they went by the last name Faith, your middle name. When you were about 7 you ran off and almost got attacked by a group of vampires till Miranda showed up and tried to fight them off, sadly she died in the process but you made it out okay. Travis was devistated but was determined to raise you on his own. He did well till he was taken by the Rylocks,as you remember, and Cyndel's family took you in." he leaned back in his chair once again. "So your telling me, I've been living a lie..." he sighed and nodded slowly "and it was my fault my mom, I mean, Miranda, got killed." he nodded slowly again and tears pricked in my eyes. Desiree put her hand on my knee and looked to Mylex "How do we find Clary and Jace?" He shrugged "You'll have to be good enough to slip out of here and head to the other institute." I had no clue where that was but Desiree did since she's been there a few times before. There are only two institutes that are still up and running after something happened, don't ask me waht because I don't know but it took down the other two institutes killing a ton of other shadow hunters. "Can you by chance let us out then, since you are the only person now that can?" I asked. He nodded and pulled out his stele and showed me the symbol to unlock it. I grabbed a piece of paper from his desk and drew the symbol then stuffed it in my pocket. "Thanks." I started to walk out the door behind Desiree but he stopped me by putting his hand on my shoulder. "Be careful Rylee, right now there are a ton of demons out there so you don't want to go alone, gather up a group of people to go with you but remember, trust no one..." he let go of my shoulder and I nodded and walked out. Trust no one? What did he mean by that? Don't trust my best friends, or the wackos I may find on the journey? This is all happening way to quick.
(A/N: Aghh, sorry this chapter is crap! I'm pretty tired at the moment so sorry if it makes no sense. I just needed to update for you guys. So, what do you think about Rylee being the daughter of Clary and Jace all along? I know it's a little early in the book to find out. usually you find out later in the book but, I'm not so sure if I'm gonna make a second book so I wanted to put it into this one.
