A/N: If you are looking for your average, cliche mature werewolf novel, this is not it. This is something I concocted out of the depths of my own imagination, and as a result, will not be cliche. Read on if you're still interested, but be warned: There will be "cake" - or rather, death. Don't grow too attached to the characters.
This has been salvaged from an old Facebook post, the last remnants of something I had canceled and deleted from hard and thumb drive alike. I finally decided to take up writing it again almost from scratch after a few years of the characters "haunting" me - as any character from a story that shows promise should do. I hope you enjoy!
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Death, occult themes, homophobia, blood, violence, genocide, racism/specism, PTSD (It takes place in far less pandering times, folks. You have been warned.)
(A/N: Dates are in mm/dd/yyyy format)
A/N 5/21/2018 While you wait, a Thank You for your support! The new tag ranking feature has placed me at #12 in #Otherkin and... #72 in #Dwarf?! Thank you so much, guys! Here's a screenshot of the other rankings as of today:
Though I may be in the lower half in everything except the #Otherkin category, I am optimistic that we can get this book higher! Keep those votes and comments coming and I'll get Chapter 10 out as soon as possible!
A/N 6/12/2018: Technical Difficulties
A couple of weeks ago, I sent a message to my followers bidding farewell to my tablet. Then, just last week, I was counseled by the computer repair shop to which I had sent my laptop to put my laptop in the tech morgue, which I did on the condition of salvaging the data from my hard drive.
Today, my phone decided to kick the bucket. I am not sure if I can replace its battery. I highly doubt it, and should my doubts prove accurate, this may be the last time I have contact with you guys for a while due to a tight family budget. I'll try to get back to updating as soon as possible, but until then, peace out.
Update 6/13/18: Apparently my subconscious prayers for my phone's resurrection were heard, because it picked the bucket back up this morning and is currently charging at home as punishment.
A/N 12/18/2018: Since many readers have been complaining about my method of avoiding the cliché "X's POV," I have made the decision to emulate the classical style such a book would have been written in in the 18th century and am making the transition to third-person omniscient. No more complaining will be allowed in the comments; you have brought this upon yourselves by relying too much on the cliché POV change that is far, far too prevalent on this website. You may also notice there are dates at the beginning of each chapter. This is to help keep track of the timeline, as well as another purpose I'll let you figure out.
Also, I have finished the manuscript for Chapter XII and am currently penning Chapter XIII. These will, once again, be long chapters with about 3,000 words, a standard which I plan to keep for each chapter in the rewrite currently being drafted on my backup account, SylviusZebedeeMawwed.
A/N 1/5/2019 - Rising in the Rankings and Refining Tags
Thank you so much to everyone who has voted on this novel. As of today, we are at #2 in Otherkin! (I challenge you to get it to #1!) However, this is not that impressive when you consider the fact that there's only 44 other stories with that tag. As you may or may not have noticed, I have removed "salvage" from the list of tags, as it only has 10 stories. "helpfightcliches" and "notacliche" were scrapped around the same time as "Maryland" due to similar shortages of stories. Right now, I am considering removing "ent" and the titular "Otherkin" as well - basically any tag with less than 100 stories.
But that's just the small stuff. What's really impressive? These rankings right here!
My little rankings list has grown so much! :3 If you haven't already, compare this list to the one from last May. Not only have I gone up 81 places in "transformation", I am also ranked in "genocide" and "hunter" - two tags I have had since I started writing this novel here. Maybe, someday soon, I will finally be ranked in the genre categories, especially "werewolf". Thank you for your support; you have no idea how much this means to me.
9/24/2019: Genre Change!
So over Labor Day Weekend, my novel reached a ranked position in Historical Fiction, #925 or so out of 29k stories. While I didn't get a screenshot (mainly due to being on a hotel computer and being quite stunned and humbled), I nevertheless thank everyone who made this possible.
So! With the true climax of the book about to be written and the premise of Book Two being set up, I need a main category that will apply to each book in the series, and that brings me to choosing Historical Fiction as the genre for The Otherkin Chronicles. Not only is this a more perfect category, it will help form the union of the series and the establishment of a common banner...and if you see what I did there, have a cookie! (I admit, it is a bit of a stretch.)
Thank you for reading, and I'll see you on the pages of Wattpad!
