This book takes place in the 1700s. To make it feel authentic, a plethora of 18th-century words and expressions are used throughout by the author. Due to a prior lack of a proper glossary, some think the author was being cryptic in his language despite the definitions at the bottom of each chapter. Therefore, the author has compiled a glossary of terms that are unfamiliar to the modern-day reader, so as to eschew any further obfuscation.
