The next day went by fast, as did the next, and the next. Ever since Alfred's birthday, he's been locked up in the library, and going out less. The kingdom worried for their prince. As did Mathias, so he decided to check on him.
He was walking down the halls, at a fast pace looking for a sign to the library. He kept walking till he passed it, which he then slowly walked backward and turned towards the doors. Placing his hand on the lock, and slowly turning it, he opened it. And try as he may, closed it softly. The library was a gorgeous area. Dark oak shelves filled with books, scrolls, and dusty papers. A velvet couch sitting on a carpet was over near a chess table.
Tables and chairs that matched the shelves cut through some bookshelves. The ceiling was a beautiful painting of the heavens and Earth. In the middle of it showed Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds. The heavens had beautiful stars that shined with every color. Representing the world outside of their own. The Earth a vast land that was gorgeous and growing. Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds. Where everything meets and ends. That's what the painting meant to Mathias, but moving on.
"Alfred!" He called. Walking around poking his head through corners, and areas.
"Prince Alfred F. Jones, His Royal Highness, Prince of Spades!" He shouted while standing like a certain Captain of the Army. After about an hour or so looking through the library, he gave one last shout
"Sigh... Al?"
"Over here!" He heard Alfred say.
"Where are you?!"
"I'm over in the Romance section!"
Ah, that's why he couldn't find him.
When Mathias finally saw him, he was surrounded by books that circled him in a tight corner.
"Why are you here?" Mathias looked around in disgust as if Romance was a person.
"They say Queen Arthur was a hopeless romantic, and he would spend days in this very spot right here," Alfred said while pointing down to his spot.
"Alfred... not this Queen Arthur bullshit again."
"It's not though! Remember what happened on my birthday?!" Alfred asked while turning his head in a whiplash.
"Yeah, the starry fell and cracked. It's like what your Da-er the King said." Mathias sat down next to his friend. Alfred pushed up his glasses, his eyebrows furrowed.
"The statue is old Al, it's been there over a thousand years." Mathias picked at a book, as he rested his chin on his palm.
"Then what was that boom sound?" Alfred raised his eyebrow.
"Probably just fireworks," Mathias answered.
"Could fireworks that far do that to a statue?"
"Maybe the fireworks weren't that far, and the statue is a little over 1000 years old." He stopped picking at the book and turned his head, to find Alfred already looking at him.
"Then what's that cube thing in the statue's hand?"
Mathias didn't answer.
"Why didn't it fall out of the statue's hand?"
Again, no answer.
"Moreover, that thing and the statue survived Flood Kira!" Mathias didn't know how but Alfred had gone from talking to shouting.
"It also protected us during the Great War!"
"Some people have reported after looking at it, that they're greatest desires have come true!"
"Alfred those people are delusional!"
"Then what is that barrier that protects Spades?"
It was quiet for a minute.
"Where did it come from?" Alfred whispered loudly.
"Sigh... you got me there." Mathias sighed as he scratched the back of his head. As he stood up to leave, Alfred said.
"Does this mean you'll believe me?"
He turned around walking over to Alfred and hesitated before asking.
"What do you mean... what am I suppose to believe?"
Alfred looked up at Mathias, he stood up as best as he could. Knocking down a couple of books. His eyes had a glimmer in them, telling Mathias he was serious. Alfred opened his mouth and said.
"That the story of Queen Arthur is true."
Silence.
Mathias burst out laughing as he clenched his stomach. Causing Alfred to jump a little.
"Y-You think?" Mathias was interrupted by laughs.
"That the story of Queen Arthur?" Mathias's voice got 3 pitches higher.
"Is TRUE!" Mathias was now crying.
"Yeah, I do! And it's not even that funny!" Alfred crossed his arms. After awhile Mathiad calmed down, as he placed his hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Sorry, but Al... you got to see this from my point of view." Mathias chuckled a little.
"The first time we met, we were what...six?" Alfred nodded.
"You told me the story of Queen Arthur every day up until we met Mattie." Mathias frowned a little.
"Then you finally admit to having a massive crush on him, even if he was a statue and or myth." Alfred blushed while rolling his eyes.
"Then you freak out about the statue cracking on your birthday while locking yourself up in the library." Mathias pointed to the books that were surrounding Alfred's feet.
"I come to find you in the Romance section, only for you to ask me all these questions. And to tell me, you believe that Queen Arthur was real." Mathias chuckled.
"Okay, I see what you mean." Alfred laughed a little. Mathias slung his arm around Alfred, while Alfred did the same to him. Walking out the library, Mathias cheered
"Come on! Lady Liberty and Bust have been dying to run!" Mathias laughed. Alfred laughed too.
"Race you?" Mathias said.
"Already ahead of you!" Alfred called from the end of the hall.
"HEY, NO FAIR!" Mathias shouted while running towards him.
