Kaycee's POV

I had crawled out of the window, beginning to panic because I had felt nothing like this. I had never been lied to, especially Gabe. I ran to the car and Julian looked at me as I opened the door and sat down. I had made the biggest mistake ever.

"What happened?" Julian had asked as I just stared forward into the dark. I was feeling numb from head to toe.

"I think I was lied to." I sighed and leaned my head back against the chair. Julian dropped his hands on the wheel, looking outside.

"Who lied to you, Kaycee?"

"I think Gabe did..." I frowned and I turned my head toward him.

"What did he say?"

"He said something abou- about three smiles." I began to realize that it was true, Sean was trying to hint he liked me all this time.

"What do you mean? What's that supposed to mean?" He said quietly, curiosity sparking into him. Trying to calm me down.

"I have three smiles, Julian. One when I'm faking so much my teeth hurt, one when I'm not having a great time, and one where I am actually happy. And Gabe told me all of this, but really he was just throwing up words from Sean..god I'm so stupid." I hit my head against my hands and he had rubbed my back.

"It isn't your fault Kaycee." He leaned forward, trying to encourage me. "Sean was freaking out last night, you have no idea. He's so worried that you would hate him. But, what he said about protecting you yesterday, he really meant it."

"But, what's the truth Julian?" I looked up to him and he sighed.

"I can't. Because the truth hurts, Kaycee...even for me." He muttered. He started the car, and we drove away.

"Why can't you just tell me?" I had asked, bothered by the idea of Sean hiding something.

"Because- Kaycee....Sean will tell you. Just give him time." He sighed, continuing to focus on the rode.

"I don't really think there's any time, Jules." I said quietly and he looked over as we parked at my house. "I mean
I completely messed things up with him. And he kissed me."

"He what?"

That's when it had hit me. Sean Lew had kissed me. My best friend who had looked  after me from beginning to end, who cooked me food whenever he could, who would drive me, who had paid me back no matter what, who had protected me even though I hated him. I hurt him. And I needed to make up for it.

"He kissed me, Julian. And I think I like him." I said, not believing the words I had just said. "I think I love him, Julian." I said as I rubbed my arm, feeling nervous.

He looked at me, and rubbed his head.

"Well, we're gonna have to make it up to him, you know that.." He said cautiously, but I agreed.

"Yeah.. I know."

The next morning, Will picked me up. He said that we were going to talk about what happened, with the exception of Sean, and I was upset.

"What ever happened? You guys were okay..but now?" He asked, as he ordered his coffee. I had ordered an iced green tea.

"I was just- really stupid Will, I'm sorry you saw that in class....and I really screwed it up, with him."

"Why do you say that?"

"I-...the promise, remember?"

"Yeah..?"

"Sean broke the promise...and Gabe, he wouldn't care about that stuff but I went along with it, Will. I don't know how to fix this." I turned my head, and Will patted my head and hugged me.
