When you usually hear the word “magic” what comes first to your mind? Is it a silly looking guy dressed up in a suit pulling a rabbit out of his hat? Or a wizard waving around a magic wand?

Well, both “definitions” are way off. I learned that the hard way. See, the term for a magic user is a mage, and the only way you can tell a mage from a regular person is his eyes—amber eyes as golden as the sunset. But as for me, this particular characteristic doesn’t apply. Not that I know why, but I’ve just always had brown eyes. Boring, regular brown eyes. But I guess it fits in with the rest of my life.

Normal is the word most people would use.

But that all changed last spring, when the nightmares starting happening.
