Steve McGarrett felt nostalgia as he stood on Pearl Harbor. He noticed the Governor of Hawaii making her way towards him and saw that she was an older lady maybe his fathers age and seemed tired and stressed. What he couldn't have known was that she had made a phone call just minutes before this to notify a young lady of her mother's passing in connection to his own father's death.
"Commander" she said with a polite and practiced smile as she held out her hand towards him, the wind blowing her hair back and away from her face. "Thanks for agreeing to see me, and I am so sorry about your loss."
Briefly shaking her hand he spoke gruffly, not sure why she called him here. He was on a clock and every minute counted. "Is this about the investigation?"
She stepped back and assumed a more professional manner knowing empathy wouldn't get her what she wanted from the SEAL. "Yes, I have alerts across all of the islands." she stated to assure him that she was invested, it didn't work.
"You won't find Victor Hesse with road-blocks and search warrants, He's gone underground until he can find a safe way to leave the island. Now, why am I here?"
"I'd like to help you get what you came back here for," she spoke softly, "Let's walk."
Continuing her talk she led him towards the exit, "Your father's death was a wakeup call to me and every law enforcement agency in Hawaii. Which is why I am putting together a taskforce and i want you to run it."
"You don't even know me." he spoke not even sparing her a glance.
"I know your resume, Annapolis, five years Naval Intelligence, six years with the SEALS," by this point he had almost had enough and picked up his pace but still she continued, "Your superiors say that YOU are the best that they have ever seen."
"Let me stop you right there," he came to a stop, "I have been tracking Victor Hesse for five years. If he was bold enough to surface here, i promise you that he has an exit strategy planned and he knows I know it. Which means that I can barley afford the hour that it's gonna take to bury my father. Let alone stand her talkin' to you." adjusting his hat he began to walk away "Excuse me."
She turned aggressively towards his retreating figure and spoke, loosing the softness in her tone. "I can help you find this son of a bitch. With full immunity and means, with a taskforce with blanket authority to go after guys like Hesse and get them the Hell off MY island. Your rules, my backing, no red tape. And I promise you Commander, what you see with me is what you get."
"Here's what I see, an election year coming up an a politician who needs the PR. Whose willing to do whatever it takes, including bringing me down here to Pearl Harbor where my grandfather was killed so I might feel" he shakes his head slightly, "some kind of obligation to fulfill my family destiny. Is that about right Governor?"
"None of those things make me feel less responsible. I knew your father Commander, this is personal for me too."
"Pass." With no hesitation he declined her offer.
She searched his face nodding, "Alright. Here's my private number, please think it over." He took the card. "Thanks."
Elsewhere
She watched the casket get lowered into the ground of Hawaii, the CIA held the service and watched one of their most decorated Agents fade from this world into the next. Her daughter is full distinct uniform stood unflinching and seemingly unaffected. Her father nowhere to be seen, besides a few colleges of her mother's she was the only one in attendance. In her mind she was already reviewing a plan to hunt down the bastard that she knew as Victor Hesse. A name with no personal recognition but the man had plenty of warrants out for his arrest, an international terrorist who seemingly took over the criminal reigns with his brother after their Father's incarceration and death. She needed a plan and a good one and she was already a day behind the jump but first she had to make sure her mother got the burial she deserved. They were always close, all three of them but her and her mother had always had a bond, she was Dean's hero and damn if she didn't try to imitate her mother all throughout her life. She walked away from the fresh grave accepting condolences as she went. Her father was missing and she had no leads. The Governor had called and offered her a leadership command of a small elite task force that had blanket authority with full immunity and means. And she accepted. Swearing in over the phone she went to her hotel and change then made her way to her parents house which was a crime scene. She didn't know that she would run into a detective when she arrived.
She pulled up to her parent's house and walked around to the back near a private dock that was heavily secluded. Her parents had been smart and had saved their entire lives and had nice retirements from the CIA and it was enough to buy them a nice house with some land and for them to not need to work, which in Hawaii is extremely rare and very expensive. she stepped around the crime scene avoiding the tape and saw that there was little to no evidence, indicating that these where pros and highly skilled which led her to believe that Hesse had not been present, 'cleaner' and 'hitman' weren't on his resume.
Danny had been livid after he had been forced to partner up with the Commander. He was everything that made his job harder. Know it all, cocky, and downright dangerous. The man exuded confidence and leathalness from every pore. Maybe thats why he had felt so good when pointing out to a very surprised McGarrett that there was a second crime scene in the case with another murder Victor Hesse was credited with. So he led the way around the quite ridiculously secluded and private house to the victim's dock and spoke with Steve.
"The victim was shot point blank while being tied to a chair. She had bruises across her body and the house shows signs of a struggle."
"Any relatives?"
"A husband who is missing and a daughter, 26, name's Elizabeth Dean Mathews and is in the Army"
"Doing what?"
"No clue, it was all redacted and classified information" He spoke and then noticed the figure of a tall lean woman standing on the crime scene. She seemed close to Six feet but not quite there and had long blonde hair pulled back into a pony tail. She was wearing boot cut jeans with sneakers a belt with a gun on her holster, and a simple green tee.
