[ you're the dream i
never wanna wake up from ]I dusted the droplets off my jacket and wiped away the strays on my cheeks.
"Did you get wet?" Jason asked. I looked up and found him staring down at me. He ran a hand through his hair, oblivious to how lewd it sounded. I puffed out my cheeks and tried to hold back my laughter.
"What's so funny?"
"Did you get wet?" I imitated in a low voice with a cheeky grin.
He blinked blankly.
It took him some time to realise. Cheeks flushed, Jason averted his eyes and stared at the ceiling.
"Shit. That sounds so wrong."
I watched him fumble with the compact umbrella in his hands. The corners of my lips turned upwards. How cute.
I pried my umbrella from his hands. "It's okay. Anyways, that was quite a downpour."
"Yeah," he coughed awkwardly. "It was pretty sunny and the weather reports said that it would be a clear sunny day."
"Well looks like they got it wrong. Again," I sighed and shook my umbrella in an attempt to get it dry.
Indeed, the weather had made a huge three hundred and sixty. When I woke up, it was just like any sunny, humid day. Now, it looked like we were not far from a thunderstorm. But to be fair it was rainy season after all. I sighed at the thought. I wanted my Summer back. Summer should have a speeding ticket every year for passing by so quickly.
Then I remembered how my past few Summers went.
Forget it.
I shoved my damp umbrella into the side pocket of my backpack.
"Morning Jase!" someone yelled cheerfully out of the blue. I spun around and spotted a guy leaning against the lockers. He waved at us, though I was pretty sure it was directed at Jason and not me.
"Hey man," Jason waved back. He had a wide grin sported on his face. As his friend sauntered over to us, I noticed that he had a similar varsity jacket on. The jock was athlete build like Jason, with similar broad shoulders. Sitting on his head was a curly mop of sandy blonde hair.
Peach Fuzz, I thought.
"Shitty weather today huh? I doubt we'll have any training today," he chuckled and draped an arm around Jason. He raised an eyebrow and gestured at me. "And who's this?"
"She's new," replied Jason.
Peach Fuzz's eyes twinkled with amusement.
"Hello New! I'm Kyle."
"Hi Kyle, I'm Heather. And I'm not New. I mean I'm new, just not New. Wait what?"
Jason's lip bulged with a chew and Kyle gave me a toothy grin.
"Got cha," Kyle winked and both of them burst out into a chorus of laughter, much to my dismay. I huffed and pushed past them.
"You know what? Bye." Shaking my head, I hurried down the hallway.
All around me were students milling around busily. Some entered the classrooms while others loitered about the hallway in their small groups. A small group I passed burst out laughing. I gave everyone in my sight a once over. Much to my disappointment, the one person I was looking for was no where in sight.
Where on earth are you when I need you?
"Shouldn't she be here by now?" Jason said behind me. I frowned and gave him a glare, making him tilt his head. "What's wrong?"
"Don't follow me," I chastised. The corners of his lips curled up.
"But do you know your way around? I don't think so."
As much as I wanted to retort, he was right. So I turned away, unwilling to accept my defeat.
"How about we guide you to your class, Heather?" Kyle offered. He casually put an arm around me and leaned against me.
Red alert, red alert!
With a scowl, I shoved him off me forcefully and towards Jason. Thrown off guard, probably because he didn't expect that, he stumbled.
"Kyle, I'd appreciate if you lay off my personal space, thank you very much."
"Wow there!" he said when he caught hold of himself. He held his hands up playfully and grinned one of those stupid grins. "What's up with you? Could it be Miss New's time of the month?"
Jason gave him a disgusted look and elbowed him. "Dude, not cool. Don't make fun of that kind of stuff. I heard it's worse than pregnancy."
"Aw, come on! You're no fun today either. Are you on your period too Jase?" teased Kyle. The blonde jock leaned against the lockers and folded his arms as he jutted out his chin. Jason rolled his eyes and turned to me.
"Don't mind him, he's just kind of touchy and he's not exactly a lady's man."
"I figured."
"Uh, you two know I'm here, right?"
I rolled my eyes playfully. Kyle's annoying and touchy but he's got an easy going, cheerful personality. He reminded me of Stella.
"Speaking of Stella, where is she?" I muttered and did a three hundred and sixty. Then I spotted a figure barrelling towards me at the speed of light. The speed the person was going resembled a warship. Something about the way it sped forward reminded me of how a certain someone used to rush forward to embrace me. I squinted my eyes.
Uh oh. Could it be?
"Heather!" a high pitched voice squealed and I hardly had anytime to evade when I was tackled head on.
I think I flew into the air thanks to the impact of the collision. My legs left the ground and my limp body soared in the air for a few seconds before I met solid ground.
Except this time, it was my face that met it. Face first. Pain flared up my nose. Crap, I think I've broken it. Stars swirled around me and I found my world spinning.
Really?
Then I face planted into my own pool of blood.
