Caverns At Night

 A small Iight

Shining bright

as it reveals the looming curves

of the arches towering above me.

My friend, writing.

Writing in the silver-gold lighting

of the candle that flickers and

jumps up again with joy at

being free

A boy walks by the pews opposite me,

Marveling at intricate patterns and shapes

of white and black and green rock

that reflects everything back at him

but leaves all else in black

Faces cast with a soft glow as they

appear around me, gathering,

Gazing. Their eyes like starlight, their hair

of fire.

Sometimes rose-gold

Sometimes dark like last embers

that remain.

I close my eyes and see

all the people around me

the ones I love, admire

the ones that make my heart catch fire

The ones that care, comfort and cheer

Soft, kind features

smiling as they take in the

Companionship with me

Flawed complexions, more perfect than the stars.
